Picked small tomatoes again, you know the Juliet Grape tomatoes and the Sweet Million Cherry tomatoes. Also had a nice batch of various eggplants. And the usual glut of cucumbers. Nothing wasted though. I was able to give away the excess cucumbers and eggplants.

I did see two female blossoms on my squashes today. Along with the usual tons of male blossoms.

Was looking at my late planted or second season cucumbers and they are just loaded with smaller cucumbers. Of course getting bigger ever day. Most of these are not on a trellis, which is unusual for me. Well, about 40% trellised the rest left to sprawl on the ground.

Jen sounds yummy. I grated up some zucchini and froze it so I can make zucchini bread in the winter.

Out checking my cantaloupe and Honey Dew this morning and who's starring me through the fence? Not 1 not 2 but 12 deer. Run in the house and sprayed the entire edge line of the backyard with Egg and Garlic mix. Oh boy it smells like a dirty locker room of ripe socks out there. The deer ran away though the minute they caught the aroma.

As long as the deer are looking in I don't mind. The problem is the little spotted ones as they just duck under the rope we have temporarily up between fencing until we get the deer netting posts cemented in.

The ones in the store are picked green. Once a cantaloupe is picked the sugar content is set. It does not get any higher sitting on your counter waiting to get soft enough to eat. Picked ripe home ground have the highest sugar content so therefore the sweetest taste.

Rita the yellow squash are awesome this year. I've grown them in the past but this year they taste so much better, Not sure why. My second planting of yellow squash has baby squash on it already and the first batch of plants is still producing.

Can't be a lack of rain as you have been swamped in rain.

I have been getting yellow squash off my Golden Egg which has been producing most of the summer but these Safron Squashes I planted very late. We will see how they compair to the others.

If anyone looses their summer squash or zucchini early in the summer they are very easily started from seed. And in the warm weather pop up and grow quickly. I am a very firm believer in replacement plants. That is what worked for me and I have had squash all summer long. In the spring I was not thinking of starting squash in July and beginning of August. But I did and it has worked well.
