I did just sow some Double Yield cucumber seeds. Awfully late to start cukes here but it is an early variety, said 50 days. I I thought I would try it. I just want more cucumbers. My cucumber harvest is not as strong this year as I am used to. I get really nice cukes but not as many as I did last year.

Well, sprayed all my zucchini and Squash with the Neem Oil again. Just finished. It is cool today, not even 80 so I was able to do the spraying much earlier in the day than I do in the hot summer weather. If it's hot, I wait till the sun starts going down.

I have to do this to keep up with the Powdery Mildew problems. Gosh these darn summer squashes are so prone to getting mildew. Even the young replacement plants I have coming along are already getting some mildew. I can't image what the plants would be like if I didn't spray.

Plus the mildew control, the Neem is also good to kill any pest eggs that might be laid on the plants. I am hoping SVB season is over but you never know.

She is a nice looker. where is she in her lactation?

We just got back from KY. There was a memorial service for Adam - I think that was harder than the funeral up here. We met a lot of Adam's friends, some family that we hadn't met before. the service was nice, but the priest didn't give us any outs. We also went to the house and cleaned out the garage, stuff that hadn't made it here last year. That was also hard. I found a little sassafras tree and brought it home to see if I can keep it alive.

Porkpal, we had Blue Bell ice cream while we were in Kentucky. Very good stuff!

Stan had applied for a full time school bus driver job. It he had gotten it (not so lucky) he would have sold the cows. As it is, it's all up in the air again. All the help will be going back to school soon and Kelly applied for a job at the Erie zoo, which she hasn't heard about yet. It is going to be an interesting fall.

Found this exceptional Article at Johnny's Seed explaining all about Cucumber Types and Terminology.

De-Mystifying Cucumber Types and Terminology
http://www.johnnyseeds.com/Ass...

It is the best article on cucumbers that I ever read. Explains about the different classes like the American, English and Asian. Also difference between pickling and slicers. Talks about greenhouse and parthenocarpic and gynoecious cucumbers. And Beit Alpha cucumbers. I have never heard of Beit Alpha cucumbers until now.

It's a big new world out there. Much more to cucumbers than I ever realised.

I am looking at these four varieties there at Johhnys.

Corinto
http://www.johnnyseeds.com/p-8...

Tyria
http://www.johnnyseeds.com/sho...

And Amiga, a Beit Alpha.

And Socrates a cold weather greenhouse Beit Alpha.

Very interesting article. I will print and put in my gardening book. Funny thing is, I have grown Sultan, a Beit Alpha. It was a very good cucumber. And Diva is what I chose for greenhouse production. Very happy with it as well. Corinto is on my to buy list!!!

Edited to add I actually put all of those on my wish list!

No chance of them getting too big to eat around here. I am out there looking for pods every day. Hilarious!
