I just planted some white Asiatic lilies in a blue pot..I'm assuming they will produce more bulbs..Is that right. I put 3 in a pot and still have 4 for the ground but it has rained here all day.

Lilies do divide into more bulbs. Some Asiatics seem to divide very fast and others slower. Orientpets seem to not need divided as often as Asiatics. I usually go by how many blooming stems there are and if they are sending up lots of smaller leaves. I normally will divide about every 3-4 years, but some like Latvia need divided every year. I think they will do about the same in pots.

Thank you so much Susan. Now they are in pots that are about 6" across and the pots are full. Should I slide them gently into larger pots with a little more soil, without fooling with the root ball or just leave them alone this year?

It might not hurt to divide them as long as you are repotting them.

This is my favorite time of the year in the garden. So much to do, but everything is so full of promise. I've planted a few annuals out, but it has been a cool spring and I still have the coleus cuttings in the house and need to get some more lantana. Right now the dwarf bearded Iris are about all the is blooming. Here are a few that were open today.Thumb of 2011-04-30/stilldew/ad2dfd

Today I planted 9 Violetta Verbascum, 3 Agastache cana Purple Pygmy, a Pink Mist Scabiosa and 4 Black and Blue Salvias plus a few more white alyssum and some mixed Wee Willie Dianthus. Funny how every year there always seems to be spaces to tuck a few new things in. I have a few new echinacea, some heurchera and penstemon plugs coming from a co-op to find places for yet.

Hi Jo Ann. Yes, I hope to see more blooms too. I'm not sure about this weather. I think it is confusing my plants, or maybe I'm a little too anxious. Smiling Hope you have a good day.

Last fall I moved some of the snowdrop anemones from the back to the front under some of my tall lilies. Hopefully I won't live to regret it. They can be invasive, but sure are pretty this time of the year.Thumb of 2011-05-01/stilldew/755a20

If they are Sylvestries they will go everywhere. Mine did. I regret planting them. Its a job to keep the clump just the right size.

I'm afaid that's what they are. I have a number of clumps of them in the back yard and have to really watch them and dig them up every few years, but I do enjoy them.

stilldew said:People who have seen photos of my garden often think it much larger than it is. My whole city lot is 50' by 100'. On that is a small house, single car garage, driveway, front side walk, back deck and patio. The rest is all flower beds and paths. Here is a photo taken in early May looking towards the house.

I haven't looked at this thread for a few years and it's interesting how things have changed in 7 years. Many plants are gone, but lots of others are still going strong. Hope to get a new thread of 2017 shots started soon.
