Yeah your right Franklin. Thumbs up

Linda, Thank you for alerting us about Evergreen Seeds these days,... and for others interested in the 'Goldbars', these are the same melons under the name 'Silverline' and very affordable at reliable Baker's.

Well I just got home from my errands and it seems the new product was a clunker!

I did notice too many plants in one spot, but figured they could be thinned.

And I wondered what happens when you don't really WANT to grow the suggested veggie for its hole.

Mainly I was intrigued by the water mat... but didn't have time to look at it.

None of this is for me, mind you - I prefer more flexibility. But I know some royally brown thumbed people - garden club members no less - I thought I might recommend it to.

I'll look into it for myself later when I've rested.

Thanks for the input!
If anyone has more, do tell.

I think probably they can't take your summer HUMIDITY.
When I lived in Northern California, it was a dry dry dry heat and it was what they NEEDED to produce well.

DavidofDeLand said: One healthy plant per square foot alone would be all that might work, and the multiple plants shown in this growing platform on that site would be incredbly cramped into their offered 4x6 growing space in my mind.

I don't understand your concern. If I remember correctly, many plants in the square foot method require 1 square foot per plant, like tomatoes. But some are prescribed at more than one per foot. While I can't find a pic of the whole mat at one time to verify this, it looks like the toms have 1 hole and the leafy greens have more, etc.

I do NOT approve of the mint going directly into the ground - BIG yikes.

But I still like the concept. It's got watering AND weed mat built in....

I'm still looking in to it, but would you clarify the point that I quoted?

I don't know that picture - where?

And I haven't seen the grassy area picture either. I do know that grass can be smothered to death with many covers such as paper, cardboard, black plastic.... Does that speak to the picture?

I finally did "find a pic of the whole mat at one time to verify this"

may i make a suggestion regarding this mat. We are all familiar with that black material that we use to kill weeds in our garden. At one time i laid that on the ground (when i had a regular garden) and cut X's into the materiel and that is where i planted my seedlings. True, it didn't have a watering system but i just ran a soaker hose around the plants and attached the hose to a timer and the black material kept the weeds at bay. It's a heck of a lot cheaper and you can put the plants anywhere you want.

I agree.
That's what I will do in my own garden.
I THINK that's what my farmers do.
They may not do it with ALL crops, but I'm sure they do it with some.

I'm interested in this mat to give as a gift to my brown thumb and/or lazy gardening friends....
Or maybe as a prize in a ticket auction.

Good morning everyone. It's been 4 days since anyone posted here. Are we all digging out of snow??
Went to a Christmas Tree Shop yesterday and picked up a few things including MG potting soil and a dozen or so large biodegradable containers to put my plants when they get bigger.

It has hose connections so it needs to be in some sort of proximity to a hose.

Well, I certainly was having lots of snow. More coming today. I am so sick of it. If I didn't have 7 foot tall metal posts in then I wouldn't even know where my veggie beds were under all those piles of snow.

Oh no. I left the sprinkler on overnight, So stupid - and expensive. Getting old and silly.

I've done it.
Not overnight because in my house I can hear the plumbing.
But gone out for an entire day having meant to turn it off before I left.
Plants were fine - they had good drainage.
My water bill not so much!
