Is that what you call "sculpted"?

Madge Case is a good one, always eye catching when ever I have seen it in any garden. Nice shot!

Edited to add - cross posted with Calif_Sue...

Madge Case is a double. One of the most famous and widely grown ones. I don't think the ones pastime posted above would be sculpted either. Sculpting has to do with the three dimensional aspect of the petals, not if they open cup shaped or flat.

Look at this link for the definition and examples of "sculpted"
http://www.daylilies.org/ahs_d...

Here is the info on "double"
http://www.daylilies.org/ahs_d...

Here is an example of sculpted....
Alpha Quadrant - has the raised ribs or some call embossing
Thumb of 2010-08-06/daylily/c3f99e

Here is Doppler Effect, which has the same type of raised rib/embossing - some even call this "nostrils" but I don't think that is very attractive.

This is Zazu Pitts, which shows the "pleating" of the petals in the throat, another form of sculpting
Thumb of 2010-08-06/daylily/27973b

Fad Gadget shows the pleated petals to extreme. It is shown on the AHS definition page also.

Sigourney, which I posted a photo of at the top of this thread falls into a catagory of sculpted that they have not really defined yet. I have heard that all the terms relating to sculpting will be changed, and are being debated now.

Beautiful. . . I like sculpted. Now I am going to have to dump some so I can have room for them.

There are a lot of new forms coming. Curt Hanson's been working on these for years. Many people don't like them.... and won't acknowledge them at shows etc. They think that they open poorly. When you see them in person, they are quite different and are very stable. Fad Gadget has had 3 sets of scapes so far, and each bloom has looked very close to the one I posted.

Christine, I take it, from your "vomit" emoticon, that sculptural forms are not your thing.
