So I got tempted by Top Tropicals today. 2 day sale. Couple neat plants including Dwarf Red for $ 4.95. Hmmm. Put it in my cart and check postage. $ 26.95. Ahem. And that was the only option. And 4 freaking days. For 1 plant.

Oh well. This time of year and as hot as it has been 4 days it would likely be dead on arrival.

Sighing!

Wow I can't believe the postage was that expensive. You're right about the plants possibly dying in transit this time of year. I've heard Dwarf Red is a good variety.

This sucker I got from an abandoned allotment on the island. It is starting to grow well now. I think it is a lady's fingers. I hope it rewards me with lots of fruit for taking it in.

Thanks Cameron. I put household food scraps around it, cover and compost. My brother had a tropical fruit farm and said this can work wonders.

I wish I could put food scraps in my banana pit but it's too close to the terrace and I'm sure the ants would move in. I do dump compost that has cured in there occasionally and peat moss once a year. Still, it would be so convenient to just take stuff out there and put it in the pit. I hate ants.

It looks like the pup is doing well. I hope it is the kind you want.

Hello Janet! Thumbs up for all your effort to grow bananas in your area. The plant really prefers as hot and humid it can get with lot of watering in an outdoor setting. At least you can get one going. We all have our experiments to see how a plant can endure, our gardening fun!
