Here are my bananas, they're a little battered from two hail storms we had last month and at the end of March, but they barely died back thanks to the mild winter. I think the tallest one is about 6 ft. now?

Thanks Tarev and Charles. Thumbs up I just gave both clumps a dose of fertilizer and liquid seaweed. We've had lots of warm and humid days, I just didn't put compost around them this year because last Fall I got several bags of amended dirt from a landscape project. Maybe I'll see a flower this year on the Namwah?

Oh and I had a question? Should I remove a lot of the pups? I have the 3 main plants and then 4 pups at the bottom.

My Musa basjoo is over 6 feet tall. I planted a velutina in the ground to give it a good chance. So far virtually no signs of new growth.

WE have been so cold here mine are slow coming up. Hoping this warm weather in the forecast will help them along.

@DavidLMO That's amazing your basjoo is already over 6 ft. tall. The pseudostem on one of my bananas is nearly 6 ft. I also planted my last remaining velutina and it's doing pretty well. I hope yours starts sprouting soon?

@makap I hope you get some warm weather soon. Even though last winter was mild here, Spring was cooler than normal. We also had over two weeks of cloudy weather which is rare for us.

My velutina looks like maybe it is deciding to grow. Thinking of giving it a sot of potash.

BTW - I planted the basjoo in the ground in May '15. Bought in Aug '14 and wintered over first year in house per directions of Logees.

I'm glad your velutina is starting to grow. The potash should definitely help. Thumbs up I overwintered my Namwah banana in an unheated shed the first year but when I planted it in the ground the following spring, the pseudostem that survived the winter, rotted away. So I just decided to leave it in the ground the following winter and though it died back, the roots survived. Thumbs up

Cameron don't remove the pups. Get your plants going as a nice group of bunch bearers with fruit aplenty.
The problem is that when you are young your life it is ruined by your parents. When you are older it is ruined by your children.

My basjoo is pushing 8 feet. Hurray!

My velutina is not doing so good. I think it did not like having water on it in the blasting sun.

Me too David, Velutinas usually grow rapidly once it warms up. I have some in full shade and some in full sun. I hope you are not babying it too much, they thrive on neglect, I have never fertilized mine at all.
