There are worse things than snow. We're getting a little nervous at the lack of any sort of precipitation here. Heh, we do rely on a well...

Well yes, hurricanes and tornadoes and floods. All much worse than snow. But I still don't much like snow in the winter. I am much happier when we are having a warm spell and we are getting rain.

Ha, looking for spring seeds. So far I have ordered Cypress Vine in red and am looking to order red cardinal climber. I used to grow both of these annual vines but have not done so these past few years or so. But I really like them. So do the hummingbirds.

Bad news for hopes of early spring. Both Staten Island Chuck and Punxsutawney Phil saw their shadows this morning so we are supposed to get six more weeks of winter. Yeck on that. I want spring.

Besides all the usual for spring, I am planning on growing Heavenly Blue Morning Glories, Cypress Vine and Cardinal Climber vines. My morning glories last year were all self seeded volunteers. They started out as ones I bought as Heavenly blue afew years ago but were other colors instead. I want real Heavenly blue back instead.

Plan to start seeds myself. Plan to start other types of flower seeds also like Sunflower and Mexican sunflowers.

I also have Strawberry Field Gomphrena seeds which (lovemyhouse) Debra so kindly sent me. I will be starting those also. Lovey dubby

Where did you get the Cypress Vine in red? Do you know where to get the red cardinal climber? I'll have to get them myself for the Hummers! Lovey dubby Thumbs up

I don't know where to get them besides Amazon. I found my seeds on Amazon. But I think the big seed companies like Parks Seed has them.

Both are available from Swallowtail:

I think I prefer the Cardinal Climber to the Cypress Vine, myself. The Cypress vine seems a bit fragile. Pretty, tho.

Yes, very fragile but so pretty. It makes a great plant for a large pot with a smaller obelisk in it for the vine to ramble up. That is what I am planing on doing. Putting the Cypress vine in a pot like that. Hopefully I will have good success and can post pictures this summer.

Then I put a wooden trellis up against my house near my kitchen door which I want to plant the Heavenly Blue Morning Glories. That just leaves me the Cardinal Climber to decide on its final spot.

Thanks for the link top Swallowtail. I will go check out those links.

Anyone growing the red morning glories? I see Crimson Rambler seeds there which they are saying also attracts hummingbirds. But the flowers look just like the ones in the picture of Scarlet O'Hara to me.

I (accidentally) grew a Cardinal Climber in with some of my morning glories last year and it looked really nice! The contrast of the different type leaves and the bright red flowers was neat! Tried to get some pics, but they didn't come out that well. but this one does show the neat contrast of the leaves. None of the MG flowers in this pic, but it's a variety of I. purpurea.

Crimson Rambler is an I. purpurea. Scarlet O'Hara is an I. nil. Purpureas are generally easier to grow, at least for me. Heh, and usually you can get Crimson Rambler seeds for a little bit of nothing at places like Wal-Mart or the hardware store. Smiling

Walmart here is far away and really hard to get to. I will look for seeds at the big nursery I go to or order online.

Even our local Safeway sometimes has cheap seeds, although not generally till spring. And the hardware store, and both pharmacies!
Hilarious!

Could be, but probably not this early in the season. Heh, you could always try calling them and asking when/if they get in seeds.
