Christmas/Holiday Cactus will have a bigger problem with over watering than with too much sun in my opinion.
Mine get Eastern Exposure but many of them get only a glimps of the morning sun.since they sit on the divider of the bird room and the others are getting some southern exposure but very little direct sun. You may want to check your soil in the pot and see if it is sour, too wet or too dry. Depending on your plants condition you may be able to save it. I find the leaves bleach with too much sun but that does not usually kill them. You may need to repot it and give it some fertilizer. Seldom have I found anything but too much water in the ones I have killed. I now use a water wand

I have my Christmas cactus in both east & west windows......since I usually forget to water, my plants stay on the dry side....also I have them in the living room where there's no artificial light at this time of year.....The orchid cactus is very pretty. My next door neighbor had some in her greenhouse, but then they brought a cockatiel into the greenhouse to live, & he apparently ate the orchid cactus.....

Marilyn, That is a wonder he ate that since my Orchid Cactus has nasty thorns on it you can not even see. Everytime I move mine i get those suckers in my fingers since it it so big. Don't all OC have thorns maybe?
I can not imagine a cockatiel (maybe a cockatoo since they are so much bigger) being able to eat that without hurting his mouth. I guess if he was hungry enough he would eat it. My amazon will pick off any stems of plants that get too close to his cage and they do like to do that just for fun, he does not eat any of it, just tears them apart....... but those thorns are so nasty. Wow, dumb bird. Did he survive? I am curious, as a breeder of exotic birds, why did she want to have a cockatiel living in her greenhouse? Is that something new people do or what?
They could make a mess out of the plants, big time. Just normal for a bird to forage. Confused Confused

It was definitely a cockatiel......they also had a parakeet living in the greenhouse (which was attached to their living room)....one day, someone.....I suspect the husband...left the greenhouse door open.....they never found the birds! I'm not sure if the OC's had thorns....I never got that close to them! Anyway, husband died, & wife has moved...house has been empty all summer.....

Oh my goodness....irresponsible bird owners make me so upset. I can see having an aviary with a few tropicals in it but to put exotic pet birds in a working greenhouse is just not a good idea. They are not easily trained to stay on their cages unless you clip their wings. if you have them in a greenhouse, you clip their wings so they can only go down if they decide to fly, and a partial clip can be even better for a place like that so they could fly just so far. I would be more afraid of them killing themselves trying to fly out and hitting the glass walls. Some kill themselves flying into walls and windows in a normal home setting if you are not careful. I bred exotic birds for years and I would never think of putting them in the greenhouse (but this one was attached to the house, so that is a bit different). I can imagine what they were trying to do but it obviously did not work. Too bad for both birds and humans. nodding

I can not help but wonder what people are thinking when they do some things. Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

Ronnie I am so glad you are having luck with your plants. I have some absolutely gorgeous spiders, variegated, reverse variegated and plain green..I have a few of the curly, which I am trying to grow and propagate. They are unusual for sure. The plants on sale are so big I am going to have to do something with them if i do not sell them soon. ( If anyone wants any, they are listed on eBay and Etsy and ATP members get a $2.00 discount on each plant.) Thumbs up

Good for you Marilyn, the only things blooming just now is the Star Jasmine and the Orchid Cactus, both are here in the house. of course the Cape Primrose (streps) are blooming like crazy. They have not stopped. Nor have the African Violets and the African Gardenia. Everything but the Christmas/Holiday Cactus.

Yes they are. I love getting up in the morning and smelling the jasmine and looking at the other flowers. I talk to them, tell them I love them along with the birds because they are in the same room. What happiness and joy they bring to me. Lovey dubby

This summer I needed to split my Spider plant and my fern that were on the mantel. I left a little clump of each outdoors and now they're going like gangbusters again indoors.

The curly spider cuttings have grown into beautiful little plants. I put some in hanging baskets yesterday. They are so adorable with their curls.

Almost all the hybrid cactus, Holiday/Christmas are setting buds now.....some just barely but the days are still long and some need to wait for longer period of darkness. The greenhouse ones have pale leaves now, which I hate, but the sun bleaches them even under the shade cloth. I must start to give them something to stop that if I can. Not sure what at this time.
