Another case for the semp detectives! I have 2 different plants sold as 'Niphetos' from 2 different sources. Very different semps. I will post pics of both tomorrow. One is currently in the data base.

Sandi, the photo in the database looks to me like what SMG has listed for this semp...that's the only thing I have to compare to since I don't own this one. Good luck though! I tip my hat to you.

the photo in the database don't look like the S. 'Niphetos' we have in our collections; especially the puffs at the top of the leaves are differing;

Ok. So we will call the first on 'Niphetos A' which is in the data base. It has small tufts on the tips and a fine cilia on the leaves.
Thumb of 2013-09-25/picklepuff/c067de
This is 'Niphetos B' which is smooth shiny rounded.

Thoughts anyone? Sorry for the slightly blurry photos! *Blush*

Wow Sandi, neither one looks correct?
B is totally wrong with the smooth/shiny texture.

How long have you had A? I was just wondering if it so young it is not showing adult characteristis?

Actually B is younger. B is not completely smooth and shiny. It is shinier than A. Less than a year old. Niphetos A is a little over a year and a half old. Confused

Here is a pic I have from a younger Niphetos that came from an import shipment from Germany. Sorry I was not able to get a pic of the same from today. I will try tomorrow. It does have tips like the first one in the pic and is obviously fuzzy. Don't know if it loses its fuzz as it ages, but will get a pic for you of this one asap.

Niphetos offset (pic 4-30-2013 early in its 2nd year)

BTW, does anybody know what the name means? I could find a rose named that way, but not the original meaning of the name/word.

Hi twit;

your Niphetos is the same we have in europe in our collections; the fuzz becomes less but doesn't disappear completely; at that time it loses the clear tuffs;

in early spring - when the tuffs are visible and it's real fuzzy - the colour has no green; the green colour appears later and only at a part of the leaves;

Peter, does this one look like a young Niphetos in March? In Denver it is still cold at that time of year.

it's very similar to this

http://www.sempervivum-liste.d...

so yes - it's maybe a Niphetos but we have to verify that in other seasons!
