Wow, JoAnn, what a wonderful variety of birds. I hope you can get pictures because of I keep having daily visits from the Hawk family I will have no birds at all. then I can look at your pictures. These hawkss are making me so unhappy. I realize they have to eat, but why not eat rats or mice or some other ground critters. I will even suggest squirrel, except I would miss my little visits from them.

Hawks like most wild things are opportunists. If birds are easy ,thats what they eat. Its just awful to think about.
I dont really know how to deterr the hawks.

It breaks my heart to watch them swoop down and pick up a dove and fly off with it to feed to their babies. Even worse is when they get the baby rabbits....they squeel. Oh I do not even want to think about it. Sad Crying

Okay, birdies, birdies..... I've taken these photos over say the last 2 weeks; just didn't have time to download them to my computer & then upload them to here.
First up...... the blue & the red....acting like they don't see each other

Thumb of 2013-10-25/flaflwrgrl/0dd774

A lovely blue jay

Thumb of 2013-10-25/flaflwrgrl/2adbf6

I can't manage to ID this little bird. So pretty with green on top & yellow underneath & teeny, tiny. But it sure is having fun taking a baff!

Thumb of 2013-10-25/flaflwrgrl/7f695e Thumb of 2013-10-25/flaflwrgrl/c4e7bc

This cardinal stole my heart with it's feathers all pouffed up.

Thumb of 2013-10-25/flaflwrgrl/755247

It was as if it was afraid to get it's feet wet & then FINALLY.....

Thumb of 2013-10-25/flaflwrgrl/0d1e57

Thumb of 2013-10-25/flaflwrgrl/cd6839

And I finally managed to catch that little Tufted Titmouse on film (?pixels?)

Thumb of 2013-10-25/flaflwrgrl/bc7887

And last is a female Baltimore Oriole. I was able to see it's wings & back before it landed & when it took off so was able to positively ID it.

Loved that oriole and jay, Ann! So colorful! Well, our titmouse birds love the camera, so I only take a pic when I'm staking out the hummingbird feeder these days. Black-crested Titmouse:

Thanks y'all!
Our titmouse comes quick as a wink & leaves just as quickly! They're so cute!!! Lovey dubby Lovey dubby

The weird thing is that my bird books have the Baltimore Oriole here in the summer & not the winter?????? But I didn't see these until fall. Confused Confused Then on the All About Birds site, they have them here in the winter only. I guess they must be right.

heehee Ann! That first picture with the two birds ignoring each other is so cute. What a great assortment of birds too. Smiling
Never seen a titmouse in person. Will have to look in my guide books to see if they come anywhere close to here.

Angele, It was so cute with those 2! First, they landed & were facing each other. It was like a face off. They seemed to be getting their ego's damaged looking at one another. It was like, "HEY! I'M the brightest bird around these parts; what are YOU doing here?" As if they were shocked to see another bird who sported eye popping plumage. Rolling on the floor laughing I was so caught up in the tableau that I didn't reach for the camera. By the time I did, they had turned as you see them in the photo. Hilarious!

Great shots Ann! Love, the Eastern Bluebird, sure wish we saw those cuties down here! Could the teeny tiny warbler be a Pine Warbler? http://www.allaboutbirds.org/g... The Titmouse is so cute, one of my favorites but oh my, I LOVE the Baltimore Oriole!

No Lin, not a pine warbler but possibly a female yellow warbler. It has no markings on the back the numerous times I have seen it. It's just green on top & yellow underneath; no wing bars. If it had a finch beak it would look just like a female painted bunting.

Ann, your Warbler reminds me of the Wilson's I see here during migration, yellow below, greenish above - only the male has a black cap. Love your indignant bird story & I'd bet that is exactly what they were thinking.

Looked up the Titmouse/chickadees and it looks like I should have a chance to see the Juniper Titmouse & Mountain Chickadee on one of my visits to the very nearby mountains. They are added to my wish list!

I did look up the Wilson's but they are not "supposed" to be here at all at any time of year.

You nailed the adjective ---- indignant! Rolling on the floor laughing I now know that birds *can* have expressions on their faces.

That will be nice to see the chickadees & titmice. Hurray!

Nothing so exciting here. Just the usual Morning Doves and sparrows. I do have the cutest teeny tiny warblers passing thru but they are all the same kind and I have no ID for them. But I do see that kind every year.

I can't say the juncos have returned yet but I did see a real cutie a couple of days ago. Pretty soon they will outnumber the finches at the feeders if past years are a good judge.
