Thanks everyone. I tip my hat to you. They watch the jays and I think they steal their stash, I have 2 suet feeders right now and will add another one once the darn starlings are gone for the winter.

I got this shot of 2 juveniles at the beginning of the month, kept meaning to post it, they were so cute it was the first really cold morning and they were all fluffed up enjoying the morning sun and preening. I was surprised when one took off and it was a yellow shafted, first one I have seen in the 12 years I have lived here, the past couple of years I have been seeing hybrids, those with the red nape and red wing color.

I just went out to put the usual bird seeds on the driveway. Forgot to put them out earlier. But the seeds from yesterday were hardly touched, mostly still there. Very unusual as they birds eat them up by the end of day. Yesterday I didn't notice any birds all day long but thought I just must have missed seeing them when they were around. Now I realize they were not around at all! How strange. Usually I have flocks of Morning Doves all day long. And lots of other birds also.

Even the squirrels aren't/weren't around.

The stink bugs seem to have taken to the woods or something. I am sure those poor bugs grow up with a complex....they have nothing going for them except people seldom kill them since they smell so dreadful. I am changing my bird seed...there is no reason why birds are not eating what I have been giving them. I want to know where my birds are.

We have the night camera on and we have fox, coons, and possum. None of which would bother the daytime birds. Mystery still exists unless it is a cat I do not know about or the hawk. I am so frustrated. The little birds (sparrows and finches are here) chickadees and other winter birds have not arrived as yet.

My chickadees are year-round here but more noticeable in winter as they are the primary birds at the feeder.
I want to live in a world where the chicken can cross the road without its motives being questioned.

Since moving here 12 years ago I have had chickadees all year round and have had them nest in the boxes, last winter I had a shrike prey on my birds, and the chickadees didn't come around any more, they are one of my favorite little birds. Sad I did see a couple the past 2 weeks. Smiling I hope that dang shrikes stays away this year. Angry

Oh Margaret, that is not good. Yes, let it stay away. I love those chickadees also.

JB, that is interesting with the night vision camera. But I still don't understand why your birds are so scarce. Strange. Strange.

I saw a Junco here yesterday, the first of the season, Then they stick around all winter.

It would be very upsetting to not see my bird friends for more than a day or two. Crying

I agree

It's cold this morning, 30 degrees, so I have quite a few birds, the red shafted northern flicker was the first at the suet , I had 6 Steller's jays, several house sparrows, a spotted towhee, gold finches, pine siskins, few blackbirds and 4 very chilly looking ringed doves. Green Grin!
