I was only going by the Cornell ornithology website
http://www.allaboutbirds.org/g...

which actually says they are summer for you & me. Then there was another site that said they are summer for me but migrating for you. Sometimes you don't know what to believe. I have 2 bird references (books) & I will find opposite information sometimes between the 2 books. And 1 list birds the other doesn't & they are both for Florida. Confused Confused Confused Blinking

Margaret, I missed commenting on your photos the other day but I wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed them - the Robin with the worm is a classic and the Towhee is so neat! I see both of those mostly in the winter but I thought I saw a Robin fly over a couple of days ago.
Lin, loved your photos - most of them are ones I never see here and I'd never even heard of the Parula before!
Here are some American White Pelicans flying by but I WAS standing in my backyard when I took the photo, lol! I live right under a major flyway & get to see lots of flocks of migrating birds in the fall & spring

Thank you Angele.

We are under a flight path also, I get to see the huge flocks of Sandhill Cranes fly over.

I actually saw a cardinal yesterday and a larger dark bird today Not sure what it was, it was so hungry and all alone. I felt like I had to go talk to it and make sure it was o.k. but it ate and left.

The cranes are very very loud, sometimes you can hear them and have trouble seeing them they fly so high, on that day they flew right over the house and were circling around and reforming, I was on the deck and I have a 35 mm lens on my camera, I was mad because I didn't get better photos, but I was facing SW at 5:07 PM and the light was blinding me. JB, glad you saw a pretty cardinal yesterday. Thumbs up

I am not hearing or seeing any cranes but I did notice the geese and ducks are beginning to get restless. Many of the Canadian Geese stay here all year now and the ducks too, but not as much as the geese. I am not sure why that has happened.

It amazes me how they get into formation and how noisey they get when they get mixed up and out of sinc. Rolling on the floor laughing Poor babies. I wonder who teaches them to fly like that? Blinking

Several more weeks & we should be seeing & hearing the Sandhills flying over us. We usually hear them long before they are close enough to ID. Great, massive groups of them!

I've never seen a flock of Sandhills flying ... I bet it's a sight indeed! We have friends who live in Brevard County on the intracoastal and there are Sandhills that nest in their community year round. They are such amazing looking birds! I took these photo's @ 3 years ago when I was visiting our friends:

Aren't they pretty? I just love them ... we see them up here in my county once in awhile too but they don't stay this far north for long ... gets too cold in the winter.

One of these days I'll dig up some "paper" photos I took (pre pixel, computer days) & scan them. I have a few of me standing with a Sandhill & you can see just what size they really are. Intimidating when that beak (curious birds, they are) gets near your face. Blinking Blinking

Oh my ... I'd love to see your photo's Ann! They are tall birds; I didn't get too close but they didn't seem bothered by me walking behind and following them. The last shot was from a distance because they were juveniles and I didn't want to startle or frighten them.

Well, I promise I'll get to it soon. I also have some pretty nice photos of brown pelicans up close & personal & some gulls in flight just above me -- like feet above me. Lots of sea birds.

For now, here is a pretty male cardinal I snapped yesterday. It's not close up because I was experimenting with trying to make banner photos & it seemed like I needed a longer shot rather than close ups. This didn't make the cut when I turned it into a banner size.

Ann, I see where you are going with the banner idea & really think you are on the right track. The red of the cardinal would be stunning. The 1500 by 150 is hard isn't it?

Lin, I would love to see the cranes up close like that, they are so tall and elegant looking. Thumbs up
