I have been gathering info on this plant and think maybe these should be combined:

Sanguisorba minor & it's syn. Poterium sanguisorba

We have them as separate species in the database?

*Also want to admit that I had no idea we had this forum until now.

This is great!! Thumbs up

What's your source, Christine? Many of my sources have been shut down by the government shutdown, but Catalogue of Life lists Poterion sanguisorbens as a synonym for Sanguisorba minor, but no Poterium sanguisorba.

http://www.catalogueoflife.org...

I see that The Plant List agrees with you, but its information is dated 1753, and most of the Poterium sanguisorba subspecies have been reclassified as synonyms of Sanguisorba verrucosa, so I'm hesitant to make the change without another source.

Hi zuzu, hopefully I'm not just being a pain. *Blush* I did notice that the USDA site is shut down which makes no sense to me Shrug! but whatever.

My investigating is from the past and now, so it was just a matter of recalling the discrepancy, and the sources may not be official.

I know it shows it that way on wiki's site: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S...
http://www.missouribotanicalga...
http://dictionary.reference.co...
This is a UK site: http://theseedsite.co.uk/profi...
http://www.anniesremedy.com/he...

There are many more that show it this way but I think you are probabl looking for something more official? maybe should wait until this crazy gov mess is over.

Thanks for your time.

Hi, Christine. You're not being a pain at all. We all want this database to be accurate, and reports like yours are the very thing that ensure its accuracy.

I'm going to wait until the shutdown is over. I need to find it in a taxonomic database, and after seeing that the subspecies of P. sanguisorba are now synonyms of S. verrucosa, I'm hesitant to merge this entry with P. minor. I'll act on this as soon as I have access to ITIS and GRIN.

Sounds good. I look forward to learning what you find out. I will also look at those two sites, as I'm not really familiar with them. Maybe something I should add to my favorites.

Thank You!!

I am so delighted that folks pay attention and question entries into the database to ensure accuracy. Thanks to the admin who monitor these queries.

Yes, Caroline. Poterium sanguisorba is still an accepted name.

Salad Burnet (Poterium sanguisorba)

Many other things have changed in the genus in the last five years, however. There are a lot of new species and subspecies that have to be added. Sanguisorba minor is now a synonym for Poterium sanguisorba subsp. sanguisorba. I'll update both of these genera today.
