Hetti,
I'm so confused about why you blocked the thread regarding the kids getting through the Summer heat? I can be dense on occasion, and am still fairly new here at ATP;... yet don't understand the politics completely I think. It did have interesting information and can't see why it was blocked. Is there an unspoken etiquette here that I have not gotten familiar with?

Sincerely and confused in all my words and truly well meant honesty?

David

David, I have unblocked it.
It started to turn into a chat thread, and since I had made it 'sticky' it was going to be used as a reference tool. Therefore, feel free to add info but use the 'Summer Heat' thread for general chat Smiling Thanks for pointing this out to me!

That is a good choice Hetti, and thank you for it! Smiling

I was simply thinking that when we are on a plant related site and as long as the information is plant related and informational;...that it is valid.

I tip my hat to you. Smiling Smiling Smiling

Don't give up on your other seeds, they are designed to germinate at different rates to give the best chance of survival of the species. It could take months but I'd be willing to bet that you'll see more emerge eventually.

I live in an apartment and this baby is going to live in my bedroom. Don't won't I can make room. I know they get about 3 feet across an 2 feet tall. But who knows if I will still be living there by the time that it gets that big. But I hope so.

And here's a pic of my baby so far:

Adam,
I'm with you. You grew it from seed. Making it something special. It grows slow and don't fertilize and keep the pot small. Should make an interesting house plant. But if it does over grow your apartment. I am sure some one or two here will be happy to give it a proper home.

That's awesome!
You have plenty of time to fret about where to put it... Rolling on the floor laughing say 20-30 years!
By then the issue will have shifted from where to it, to how to move it!

Good stuff tho!
Dry and bright!
Best of luck
Please tree mail me for trades, I'm ALWAYS actively looking for more new plants, and love to trade!

Luckily for my wallet, I have heard those plants won't make it here, I guess the heat is a bit over the top for them. Too bad, such cool aloes!

Now tiring my hand at this. Just got the seeds in today. From China. Took almost a month. Got 10 seeds for $8 and includes postage. They even sent me a free gift of seeds. The sprial ones are in a clear small plastic bag. Seeds are soaking in warm water with root tone. Tomorrow I'll plant in it's sprouting container.

Thanks Stush for taking the time to give us updates. gosh since seeing this one I've done nothing but think of it. I looked at the plant and the price is too steep for me, well at least until I get back to work, then should that ever happen, look out, as I'm getting this one.

I went to the library the other day and picked up some books, and I'm so in love with "Succulent container gardens by Debra Lee Baldwin" and the ways that the plants are displayed....OMGoodness......LOL
Blessings to you,
Jan

Time for an update. After a few days I noticed one with a root heading down. Tried to photograph but didn't come out. Any way, I took one today that looks ok. Found another one sending a root down. That makes 2 out of 10 so far. The first one has a tiny leaf. Picture is hard to show it.

By the way, that white looking stuff is the root tone that was in the bottle when I planted the seeds.

I'll post an updated pic of mine tomorrow it has three leaves now.
I had to throw the others away sometime ago because the containers they where in got a lot of moss and algae in them.
Next time I spout seeds which I think will be some agave seed I won't seal them up in a bag I'll just water them with a spray bottle.

Adam, I put my starter tray in the microwave for about 40 sec. and it was a little too hot to toutch. I figured about 140 degrees. So as to keep the moss down. Once the seeds get a little bigger, I can keep the cover off and use it as a bottom water tray. The seeds were soaking in a root-tone mix for one day then put in starter tray. Hope it helps.
