I agree that the Poke Weed is pretty but it reseeds like mad in the moister areas of the yard, one of which happens to be in the vegetable garden. The established taproots are huge and deep and removing them is really difficult. Greene isn't joking about the size of the root, but they usually grow straight down several feet rather than horizontally.

Most of the small ones that sprout are either mowed over or pulled up. They do sprout alot of seeds and I can understand some not liking them for that reason. I understand epsom salts placed in holes drilled in the tap root will kill it. This is what I have read about tree stumps so I am assuming it would work on Pokeweed.

The plant I have a problem with is Lantana. It comes up everywhere. I swear every seed it makes sprouts. This year I didn't have as many seeds on it and I think we had a shortage of Honey Bees Sad

I was admiring the beautiful Lantana in some landscapes. It was a low-growing yellow variety. Being totally ignorant (damn dumb Yankee), I went to the local independent nursery and bought 12 Lantana plants (thinking they were gonna be short). Ha! They sold me the wild variety and it is everywhere in my yard now. Yep, I have to pull them out and my dog pulls out the roots right along with me. He says the roots taste yucky, but he will eat a leaf or two when he feels the need.
Moral of the story: Research, research, research before you purchase.

And never trust a nursery to know anything, or tell you anything that might kill a sale.

"Easy to grow" may mean "invasive".

It's entirely my own fault. I 'knew' I was right and didn't even ask for help.
Now I am smart enough to know how ignorant I am...um, er....well, you understand. *Blush*

Young people think they know all the answers.
Well, maybe they do.
Unfortunately, life won't give them the questions until they are grown, married and have children of their own.

>> Young people think they know all the answers.

To the simple, all things are simple.

To the complex, all things are complex.

But which is right?
