Curious to know more about Terracotta Warrior! *Waits patiently*

I'm really looking forward to reading the background on Tiger Babies. I wonder if more than one variant has reached Australia, or if all the Tiger Babies here will be identical.... It's such a gorgeous flower. Something about the synergy between the spotting and subtle gradation of colour across the petal - it's just splendid whether you spy it from a distance or look closely:

Some more pics to share for Christmas, starting with a couple of martagon seedlings:

'Red Life' - dubious dutch trade nomenclature - I really wondered if I was buying a dud... but this is a wonderful strong lily. I'm really impressed with the size, substance and form of the flowers, and I love the steep pedicels!:

And another beautiful addition - this is Night Flyer in bud:

Those arrow-straight pedicels give a vary angular sense to the entire structure. Love the dark stems, and a little more true red would certainly qualify it as a "Christmas" lily.

They're all pretty aren't they. I'm partial to that shade of red in Red Life. Love seeing the scenery in the background of Red Life; so nice and green, in such contrast to a all white Midwest with temps at or below 0'F this morning.

Regarding tiger babies; it's a trumpet crossed with a standard tiger lily right? I'm looking foward to seeing my first blooms in my garden. I believe I got it from B&D.

Tiger Babies is all Asiatic.
Parentage as listed in the Lily Register:
'Pink Tiger' (Woodriff) x mixed pollen of pink and white Asiatic Hybrids

I see also that Judith Freeman (the hybridizer) introduced it as a strain, and not a clone. In the old Lily register it is listed as a grex, and I guess the term grex can have subtle differences depending on what it is applied to.

Smiling Thanks folk.

It would be good to see how the marts develop over a few settled years in the garden - they haven't had a chance yet to show themselves. After making a special bed and finally planting them out last winter, I've discovered I have to move house this year. I have no idea when I'll have a garden to call my own again where special species can have just the conditions they need and no disturbance (I'm feeling especially sorry for my poor L. szovitsianum seedling - approaching 9 years old, dragged form pillar to post and never a flower, but it still doesn't die on me)....

Love the Red Life shade! Some shades of red can be so tricky to capture. I kept trying to get Hiawatha right, but it's just so glossy - the most beautiful lily red I've seen. In reality it is so much more beautiful than this, but here's a misleading photo anyway:

And views of Night Flyer, colour conveyed much more accurately, though it can appear 'blacker' in life:

Now here's one I wish I had never bought...

Thumb of 2013-12-25/dellac/89e521

There's some resemblance to this, I guess Rolling my eyes. http://www.vws-flowerbulbs.nl/...

But where are the beautifully spaced flowers on long, perfectly arranged pedicels? Hmm?

Bleh... I was looking forward to using a 'pink' tetra in my hybridising, but there's no way I can subject the next generation to such a badly formed inflorescence and murky colour. Dusky coral, I thought - nice! Nope....

Sorry Pearl Loraine, I'm not impressed. In fact Red Life is everything Pearl Loraine isn't.

*nods*

Mine will be finding a new home. Or I'll eat it Drooling

I really can't tell the difference between Pink Dream and Pearl Jessica. Are they the same? Anyway, there's something almost charming about the misshapen flowers, but not enough to redeem a plant that makes such a dreadful inflorescence:

Thumb of 2013-12-25/dellac/6fb711

I seem to have acquired quite alot of them - every stem was like this... a kind of everted ladder Thumbs down

Time for something pretty!

I'm happy with Patricia's Pride. Is it always an umbel? Not usually a fan of umbels, but the pedicels are nice and long and a beautiful colour, and the flowers well placed, so I totally forgive it. Lovey dubby

IT'S TRUE! There really can be such a thing as a NICE MISTAKE! Rarely--but it can happen!

Anthony--what I find so interesting about Terracotta's foliage is how the long, densely populated leaves drape downward and then begin a gentle upward turn near the tips. I think Terracotta has the longest leaves (in proportion to overall stature) of any lily out there!

Oh, that's a nice uniform release of yellow on that Canterbury!
