We love to talk about all aspects of weather, the effect on our gardens, and on our lives.

Please join us and tell us about the weather where you live!

I always try to post a "seasonal" photo relating to weather. I dreaded posting one this time - put off starting a new thread ---- I am just NOT ready for winter this year for some reason.

Photo -- A light scattering of snow dusting the long grass going back between the edges of woods, looking over the pond. A little blurry because I took this through two layers of glass, out my kitchen window. Branches in foreground are witch hazels. Actually from this time of year, but in 2010. We had snow early this year, in mid October.

Juli, it is a lovely view. Especially if you stay inside and just look and don't have to go outside! Hilarious!

Margaret! Bad news on the minus weather conditions temperatures. Thumbs down Blinking

It is not even 40 here this afternoon, my thermometer said 38 a few minutes ago. But it is nice and sunny.

Dark and dreary, though. I have better, brighter snow photos, but they are shots with 2 feet of snow, or lots of ice!

Well, then you can use them for the winter thread. I am not ready for snow and winter weather myself either and hope it does not come around.

What a gorgeous view you have of the lake, Juli! Great picture.

Very nice, sunny day here in southern Indiana. By Sunday it is supposed to drop to the thirties.

Six months until I can expect to see my first daylily blooms of 2014. That seems like such a loooooong time! Sad

I saw this really big bird swoop down to the are where I feed my backyard birds but it flew back off again before I could get a good look. But it must have been a hawk. Don't see what else it could be.

Vickie, kind of you to call that a lake. It barely makes it to pond. Whistling It is triangular, perhaps 250-300' per side. Most of the summer it is covered in duck weed or something, and is not very pretty. The rest of the year, though, it is a nice view. Lots of waterfowl use it. And, we see a lot of other wildlife from the kitchen window, from several kinds of turtles to mink, weasels, turkey, pheasant, rabbit, fox, coyote, deer, and everything in between. Lots of birds too... Meadow, woods, water birds. Never know what we will see. It's been like living in a park. I have been here since 1984.

Rita, I suspect that it was the relative of this guy. They hang around my bird feeder area from time to time. The birds all huddle in the crab apple shrub. I saw the hawk got stuck once trying to reach the birds in the bush. I have home video of one trying to catch a squirrel. It was so funny. On one occasion I saw the hawk with a squirrel in the tree chowing down.

We have one that hangs out around our bird feeder in winter too. They get the pigeons, which is good because we have an over abundance of pigeons.

No pigeons here.I was really surprised as I don't usually have hawks swooping down.

Great picture, Mike.

Juli, all that wildlife that you see around your pond/lake sounds good to me. Do you have fish in there? I hope you do so that they eat the mosquitoes.

We got some much needed rain today. In the low 80's. The only bad thing was it was too wet on the playground to take our rowdy class outside, so they were a little wild today with all that energy they hadn't burned off missing recess! I need chocolate!!!!

Rita, there used to be fish, years ago. The dam eroded away, and only a couple deep holes, fed by springs, remained in the pond, the rest was cat tail swamp in no time. After the big ice storm in winter of 2004-2005, I had so many damaged trees that I had a guy in to log them out. He offered to redo the pond dam in exchange for some big cherry trees. He had never done a pond before. He redid it, it filled up right away, to quick, with the rain we got from the aftermath if Hurricane Katrina. The dam collapsed. He came back, after studying up on the right way to do it, and rebuilt it again. This time, it filled slower, and has held. A few times, my Ex has tried fishing, but never catches anything, so we think the fish died when it was swamp or when it was so muddy when it was being redone. But, there are a lot of frogs and turtles. A LOT.

It turned out to be a pretty nice day today. I took the dogs for a walk. I had to be careful walking, because it was slippery with the leaves down on the mud from the rain from the storms the other night. Was supposed to be about 50, but felt colder, with a steady wind. Was sunny, which always helps.
