Robin you better check and make sure the seeds are still there, they should be up a couple of inches by now, on a batch that I had didn't show I moved the dirt around and found the gnats had hatched in the soil and eaten the seed, all that was there was the empty shell, this can happen with seed just purchased at the store.

That does explain things. Durn gnats. Does the larvae eat the Seed? Not the little insects flying???

Charlene the larver hatches those pesky devils so they are hatched right there in the dirt, then first thing you know you have gnates flying around and you stand there, scratch your head and say "where the heck did they come from" your new bag of dirt thats where. Grumbling

I may not know too much about Brugs but Gnats I know lol I just won a battle with them myself. If they get too bad you can remove the top inch of soil (where they live) and replace it with sand. I left the sand there for a couple weeks heck some still have sand in them. This will get rid of the majority of them and make them controllable. You can then replace the sand with fresh soil again. I also use a Pyrethrin spray to spray them when I see them flying around the pots. course getting some Sundews and watching the little buggers get munched is more fun lol. Hurray! Thumbs up Rolling on the floor laughing

Will that do it? Like Venus fly traps just start growing them and they will eat the Brug Bug?

Arejay59 I have found the Sundews and pitcher plants are the best with gnats, Most carnivorous plants have pheramones that attract them to them.

Hi everyone, I also have sand now in my pots, but I also cut the gnat larvae population down by adding mosquito dunks to my jug water. I also have fly tapes hanging up everwhere by the lights since they gravitate to the lite. Now I am fighting some spider mites on my vines, soI am keeping the brugs segregated until we can get outside, which is not today since it is snowing and blowing here..

Does it work to use systemic, the same stuff I use for my roses. Will that kill off the knats, or will it harm the Brug?

It doesn't kill fungus gnat larvae at my house, I have tried it already/.... Angry the mosquitoe dunks are doing a much better job and doesn't harm the root systems. I grow more than brugs and treat them all at the same time.
