Thanks for the positive comments. Sandy, my largest bed for Amaryllis is raised about 5 inches, surrounded by edging bricks. That bed is in the direct path of two lawn sprinklers, so I like the increased drainage by having the bulbs a bit higher in loose soil. The bird bath acts as a focal point during the period of late summer winter, when the leaves start to die back. There used to be a dwarf orange tree in the center of the bed, but it had to be removed last year, due to Citrus Greening Disease. The other Amaryllis beds are narrow and are hidden behind Daylilies borders in the summer.

Margaret, they are what we grow for spring bulbs instead of tulips and daffodils. It's a tough life . . . Rolling my eyes. Green Grin!

This is a pleasant surprise. Viridi rascal from Royal Colors. I received this bulb in Feb 2013 but it never flowered. Disappointed, I stuck the bulb in the ground last May and frankly forgot about it. I walked by the bed today and realized that I didn't recognize these flowers. Luckily RC is selling it this year, so I was able to go back to their website and ID it.

Supreme Garden . This is another cultivar which has excelled in my outdoor Amaryllis bed. It started out as 2 bulbs, about 6 years ago, and has spread to form a nice clump.

I very much agree. It really caught my attention. Don't know where I got it. I trade for amaryllis any place I get. I am going to create them a huge bed this year and get them all out of pots.

I have two Amaryllis that have been blooming off and on since the first week in April.

'Red Lion' (The bloom in the second photo looks off because of the light)
