Thanks for the positive comments. Sandy, my largest bed for Amaryllis is raised about 5 inches, surrounded by edging bricks. That bed is in the direct path of two lawn sprinklers, so I like the increased drainage by having the bulbs a bit higher in loose soil. The bird bath acts as a focal point during the period of late summer winter, when the leaves start to die back. There used to be a dwarf orange tree in the center of the bed, but it had to be removed last year, due to Citrus Greening Disease. The other Amaryllis beds are narrow and are hidden behind Daylilies borders in the summer.
