I happened to be around one time when they were debudding the baby goats. I know it is necessary but it makes me cringe, and the smell. Rita, you don't want to be in a pen with an ornery goat with horns. One wrong move....

The vet told me I should wear one of those masks over my nose when I did that, as he said "research has shown that the fumes from that burning hair "can" be carcinogenic". Yes, it is vile. And I always had to wash my clothes after I did it, as they positively reeked of the smell of it.

No, I don't want nasty goats with horns. But those baby goats are just so darn cute that I felt sorry for them. Guess they get over it quickly though.

I would rather have a goat than a cow though. Those cows are just so big! And no where near as cute as goats. I am getting so smart from watching TV Rolling on the floor laughing Now I know that there are breeds of milk goats so if I had a farm, I don't even need a cow for milk. Learned all this by watching TV. Hilarious!

Gotta laugh at a city girl that really only knows enough to think I might know something about country farm living. Rolling on the floor laughing

Well, from what I learned on TV, it depends on the breed of goat that one gets the milk from. Certain breeds really "goaty" and other breeds not that way at all.

Oh, sorry to hear that, Anna. My son has made a couple kinds of cheese and I enjoyed them even though I would never drink the milk. Well, I don't like milk anyway. He has Nubians.

Yum, I love it. One has to use it with a light hand though.

Dr Pol is coming on TV tonight at 9PM so I am ready to watch it. Wonder if he will be seeing cows and goats this time around.

Here is a pretty from my greenhouse this morning. Thought it would make all of us living in Siberia feel a little better. I have 3 blooms right now, 3 more bloom stalks, and it's already had 3 blooms that I've cut and shared with friends.

I think I want to live in your greenhouse.

I spent most of yesterday afternoon insulating pipes and outdoor faucets. I've counted 26 of them. Nothing here is designed to withstand the 20 degree temperatures forecast for the next few nights. We rarely get freezes that last more than a few hours.

I watched two episodes of Dr Pol last night. I am really enjoying the show. He had a cow in trouble calving again last night and he pulled two dead babies.

Well, there is a saying among animal farmers............"if you have livestock, at some point you will have dead stock". Not a pretty statement, but it's true.

I really like it when Dr Pol goes on the farm calls because those are always interesting to me.

Cold weather here but still much, much better than yesterday. That wind yesterday was brutal and just wouldn't stop.
