It looks like a fritillary! Do they have Gulf Fritillaries down there?

It looks like a Gulf Fritillary to me, but like Linda said, do they have those in Argentina? I am curious to know.

I don't know if it is the same.
The common name in Spanish is "mariposa espejito". I've searched for the scientific name and it is Agraulis vanillae maculosa.

Is it your Gulf Fritillary?

I can't find a translation of the spanish name to latin but the photos surely look like it is one & the same. Gulf Fritillary is our common name for it so one would need to translate the latin name to Spanish & I can not do that. Blinking Blinking

Cool! It's the most common butterfly where I live (Tampa, FL). In fact, I just found three caterpillars on one of my passion vines today. One of them was crawling across the driveway and Mom made me come identify it. He's in his wandering phase but I put him back on the plant to keep him safe.

Oh, and FYI to everyone, I had a good therapy session yesterday and am talking to my parents again. Still need to get my meds changed, but have an appointment on the 30th. Thanks for all the hugs! Group hug

Hurray! Hurray! Hurray! Hurray! Hurray! Hurray! Melanie!

Cecilia, the Gulf Fritillary is a very common butterfly all over the entire state of Florida. I have lots of them up here & also had them when I lived in the southern end of the state.

It's getting cold tonight so Mom wrapped up the plants, I ordered Dad to cover my orchids, and Mom rounded up all the Monarch cats she could find. Somehow, she's not concerned about the Frits? Hmm...doesn't seem fair; I'll have to tease her about it. I keep trying to tell her the caterpillars can make it through but I guess she doesn't believe me. Also, the other Queen cat died, sadly. But Mom spotted another one outside although she didn't bring it in for some reason? The one that made its chrysalis looks healthy so hopefully no parasites got that one. I'll share photos if and when it and the Monarchs emerge.

Not too much going on because it's cold outside! Yes, even here in Florida we've been getting into the 30s at night. Half my orchids are living in the garage although Dad took them outside for some sunshine and to hose them down. The high today is supposed to be 55 but the sun is really warm which is good because we had a Monarch and a Queen come out!

Here's the Monarch.

And here's the Queen.

And here's a Monarch cat. I think I have at least three of them but this is the biggest.

Sorry no update last weekend but I didn't go to the museum. They were having their annual Chocolate Festival (yes, that's a thing, apparently). You get to learn about the science of chocolate and then eat the samples! Things get pretty crazy and with the cold weather my boss figured it was probably safer for me to stay home. At home, unfortunately, I've had quite a few Monarchs and one of the Queens parasatized by those flies (I forget which kind they are). You think the cold would have killed them off. At least their larva never make it to becoming more flies because I squish them all!

I think I might have gone to the museum to sample the chocolate.

I can wear my volunteer name tag and pretty much wander anywhere in the museum (except maybe the IMAX theater), but I stand out because I don't have to wear the standard uniform the other volunteers wear. The butterfly garden volunteers get to wear whatever we want since we tend to have a dirty job (but someone's gotta clean up the caterpillar frass). Hilarious! Plus, I think the chocolate tasting cost extra. I guess parking was going to be so much of a problem they were going to park people at the elementary school across the street and have them come over using the covered walkway that leads to the museum. But I'll be back this weekend and hopefully have some nice photos of the butterflies for you guys! I just hope they made it through all these cold days okay!

I'm pretty sure that I've lost some milkweeds...among other plants. It got down under 15° one night during the polar vortex thing...it was only forecast to be 20° that night. Those forecasts are only educated guesses...I already knew that. I had several GF chrysalises in my unheated shed...thought they were probably dead, but I noticed today that one had emerged. Don't know how it could survive now if I release it. All the flowers are gone here. I wonder if it wouldn't be better to at least release it somewhere where it didn't get as extremely cold as it did in this hilly area.
