@ Bev, don't put nothing past ants!! My bed looks like a different bed here's some doing good. But i also have a question about a mounding semp that had a hard time during this summer's great amount of rain.It lost all of it's bottom leaves on not just the mother plant but all offsets as well.Hopefully it will fill back out this growing season.I had a lot of semps that seemed to get smaller & not bigger from the outer/lower leaves rotting from so much rain.
the day i planted it & it didn't take long to perk up
Thumb of 2014-01-21/jojoe/0cb982 Thumb of 2014-01-21/jojoe/a5142b

It started getting more offsets and then came the rains
Thumb of 2014-01-21/jojoe/948f88 Thumb of 2014-01-21/jojoe/a442e9

The amount of rotten leaves was causing offsets to rot.I removed as much rotten material as possible,i was scared i was going to loose the whole plant! Now here is what the plant looks like.

A green thumb comes only as a result of the mistakes you make while learning to see things from the plants point of view!!

JoJoe, Nice photos of progress of your semps. Rotting offsets, huh? Wonder if you pushed a little more grit under your offsets too, whether that might help?

Yes, I am leery of ants too just because I can't see what are on their little faces or what's going on in their little heads...

To specifically draw me to the attention ofyour post, you have to use my ATP name (@webesemps) instead of my given name.

Jojoe, I think your semp should be OK. Pulling off the rotting leaves was good. Bev had a good idea pushing grit under the chicks too.

I'm amazed that you're already starting your new growing season. I'm really enjoying your pictures since it will be months before I'll see my semps again. Your tectorum f/Castigliole has some nice constrasting colors.

Chris - isn't the tectorum just amazing! I have several of them but planted them apart so they can make room for babies! They all have this amazing "stained glass window" look right now!
I love my semps! What can I say! When other things are dormant these guys just keep putting on their amazing shows! (if they're not covered by snow Sticking tongue out )
I tip my hat to you.
