MR, it looks like it could be Sedum divergins.
Cascade Stonecrop (Sedum divergens)

It is a really tough sedum and mine rarely blooms.

And there are probably sedum that grow wild in your area - whenever I'm hiking now I always look for them, just to see them in the wild! Thumbs up
Thanks for sharing about Ogon - I think Seattle is just too wet for it to really do well here...but I'll try again!
Its funny for me here (2 years now) the few upright sedum that I have begin to grow their next spring's buds right away - the tops are brown, and the buds are already above ground and beginning to grow Shrug!

Greg, that is how my Autumn Joy grows-- it starts showing new growth in the late fall. Then when temps warm up again it forges ahead.

The last frost really got our Autumn Joy clumps. I usually leave the stalks 'till spring, though. They still have "architectural" interest and I think give protection to the buds that will be next year's plants. That's when we dig them up and divide them (if you let the clumps get too large, for some reason they all flop instead of standing up straight.) I'll see if it gets warm enough for me to go out and get a picture or two. MR

valleylynn said:In dormancy all the above ground stems die. You will need to carefully cut them off at ground level when you see the new growth starting to emerge. I leave the stalks for the birds to feed on the seeds. Plus the dead stalks mark the spot so you won't disturb the dormant plant.

Here is is coming out of dormancy, this is when you can remove the dead stalks.

OK, I think I got it. Thanks Smiling !

I checked mine today, so far no signs of new growth buds. I don't think they will show up until all of the old growth has died.

I can't believe you're looking for new growth now! Even though they tell us we're going to have a mild winter, any new growth now would surely be killed by our first really hard frost! The coldest it's been so far is 26 (above zero, of course)... MR

Too much going on today for me to get caught up with my camera -- it's still relatively warm out there (raining and dark, 60 degrees).

But I just checked the sedum leaves that I brought back from Southern CA and put on top of the potting mix where I was rooting a Martha Washington geranium cutting. One of them has the cutest little roots sticking out of it! Thumbs up

I don't want to disturb it again so maybe you won't get another picture until something shows above ground -- and I'm not sure where to find the pictures of the leaves I posted here earlier. It's the leaf with the best color: green suffused with coral! I can hardly wait 'till I have a whole pot of it! Green Grin! MR

MR, I remember seeing the photos, but I don't find them posted in the thread. I am excited and happy to hear that roots are appearing. It will be interesting to see the plant once it establishes. Hurray!

Very pretty Chris. And it still has some of the normal green coloring in the more protected areas of the plant. And blooms. This one has such a long bloom time.

Love those bright autumn colors, Chris. I'm thinking you made the container? I agree with Bev about the centerpiece idea!

This is a new one for me this year and I'm really liking it. Lynn, yes, it's almost like it had two growth spurts this year, showing new leaves and blooms, and then the older, more colorful leaves.

Bev, It would make a great centerpiece, but it's pretty big. The container is about 20" diameter.

Connie, I wish I had made it, but no. I've had it for probably 25 years but most of that time it was in the house. Not sure how many years it will stand up to being outside.

I am already seeing next years bud growth showing through the soil on some of the sedum. Interesting how some do that and the others don't appear until late winter/early spring.

Love that planter Chris. Is it lined on the inside? It works so well paired with the S. sieboldii.
