The only pill I have ever taken is an aspirin on occasion and rarely if you can believe that. It's truly a fact. I do have favorite herbs I make teas from when ill though, and I am incredibly a believer in Spotted Horsemint through the years especially. Monarda punctata.

I do eat a lot of greens and believe in Cissus too on occasion....and Rosemary I pick on and Tarragon and.........; I do have a very edible garden, and Amaranthus is of course special and.......................................am I now rambling? Smiling I tip my hat to you.

David ... but it's a good rambling!! Thumbs up

I'm going to be 66 in a couple of weeks and I'd never taken any medication with the exception of an occasional advil for headache or arthritis ... that is until two years ago! I had routine lab work and my cholesterol was extremely high. I tried diet and exercise ... still high, so the doctor put me on medication; next lab work showed cholesterol still high so the dosage was increased ... next labs showed cholesterol to be down (good) but my triglicerides were extremely high!! So now she's got me on medication for that too! I go back in April for labs again and I'm so hoping the trigliceride levels are way down. I have a small esophagus so I have difficulty swallowing pills, the tiny advil are about all I can get down. Whenever I've had to take an antibiotic over the years it's had to be in liquid form.

@plantladylin
Please, did your doctor do liver tests?

I ask because the prescriptions you were given while lowering your bad cholesterol can cause liver damage - hardly worth the tradeoff.

Please look into natural cholesterol lowering alternatives like psyllium, garlic, niacin/B3, apple pectin, almonds, walnuts, green tea, etc.

And speaking of things that are poisonous, did you know that raw almonds contain cyanide?

I think only the bitter or wild almonds contain cyanide, I don't think the sweet type or domesticated type are of any danger.
I have never heard of anyone being poisoned by eating raw almonds of the domesticated type.

You are probably right, since it's hard to imagine that it would be legal to sell raw almonds if they were poisonous. Interestingly, it's difficult to find a definitive answer to the question online.

I am going to cook some of my beautiful Spinach Tree this year. I'm believing that it is as healthy as I've read and have a neighbor who hasn't died from it yet. Not a drug plant and just healthy. Just have to let the Cyanide dissapate in the boil I hear.........

You need to boil it for 20 minutes to be safe.
It's got twice the nutrients of many 'normal' greens.

Don't worry, it's all good.

Some plants have more than one use. Take Epazote for example: a small amount of the leaves is a seasoning, some seeds in the correct dose can eliminate intestinal worms, too much of it can cause abortion, and if one takes enough it can even cause death.

That being said, a person can die if they drink too much water.

It's all relative.

Come to think of it, my Baba (Grandmother) did get questioned by the authorities for growing her poppies in her front yard when she moved from the farm into town. She moved them to the back yard Hilarious!
