Oh contraire ... You did an excellent job of getting it organized, Rita ... I just like doing the whipping part, so there we are... Rolling on the floor laughing

Really guys, we need more articles ... its a point of pride: the roses peeps still have us whooped! First-time-never-written-a-word-before authors are Most Welcome! to put together an article! It can be researched from the ground up, no need to be a super expert, and it can even be a group article or maybe even a stitched-together-article to bring together great info you've learned from the forum (as long as the original poster's information is referenced?).

I'm all ears!

How about the following thoughts:

1. How do hybridisers actually make choices about their babies in
a) what to keep and hybridise with; and
c) what to register.
Something nitty gritty. From what I can see they all say the same thing about what traits a keeper should have but - low and behold - when you compare the variable results you wonder what is going on. AND sometimes when you see people's seedlings that make you tongue hang out, they have no intention of registering (and do they really compost the loser plants?)

2. You got a good cultivar, you have registered it, now HOW do you popularise it? What are the marketing steps?

3. How do daylily people plan for most of the year when their garden is populated by non-flowering daylilies. Or does it matter?

4. Heritage registered daylilies and extinction: fashion, aesthetics and natural selection. Shouldn't we at least get a record of them before they become extinct? Should there be a heritage database of what still exists. Should we be trying to keep them alive somewhere and somehow?
The problem is that when you are young your life it is ruined by your parents. When you are older it is ruined by your children.

I am also looking at my notes: not to pre-empt ideas already. These are others that might only take a bit of editing because they are already basically written cause the authors are prolific.

1. Disease Michele?

2. Dormancy Maurice?

3. Polyploidy Maurice or Spunky?

4. Daylily anatomy and growth Maurice?

5. Fertilising Michele?

Also.

6. Unusual: variegated foliage, tall and small scapes and flowers, no flowers and unusual flower textures. All.

7. When is a daylily clump too big and how to deal with it and what to do with the spare fans.

8. Growing daylilies in pots.

9. Growing the original species: where it all started.

I have not written any articles myself, but would like to contribute. I was thinking on writing one on digging clumps to divide for potting up and shipping to sell. Will work on that if there's an interest, but won't be able to add pics to it until the very last minute, as I can't take any till the weather warms up sufficiently to dig a clump.
