doopid! sorry about that ray. i didn't mean to make this hard. LOL i misread what you wrote. now i see that you did see a difference and that is good! because i was trying to wrap my mind around why there wouldn't be a difference. i still would like to see a pic if you have one. thanks again for the good discussion. i feel that i know more about them now.

oh, i'll have to take a drive out there! north or south side of I-10?

It wouldnt be hard if I had the brains to take pictures. LOL

If I put my ice cream under 2700K lights it melts.
Nice looking bananas D. A lot better than my frost damaged ice creams. Wanna trade?

South side of I-10 just a little west of where country club goes under I-10.
Have you seen the tree nursery thats on the north side of I-10? It's directly south on the other side.

or i could learn how to comprehend what i am reading! :blinking:

haha ray! i like your humor. mine do not melt under the lights. fortunately, 2700K is just the color temperature. Hilarious! the look good because they are in the house under lights 16 hours out of the day.

thanks for the directions. i will probably stop by there next week.

Its funny what triggers the old noggin.
While walking through the grocery store I walked past the pineapples and it hit me.
You know that hard center core inside of pineapples? That's what the center of the banana stalk looks like after the inflo pushes up and out.

After reading through all of this discussion it seems that bananas are very resilient and a food source that could do well in more climates than conventional wisdom would support. I love bananas but don't have room in the yard. I have seen a very large "stand" at an Arabian Horse facility in Cave Creek. I pass by all the time and over the years it's in various stages of life... but, always alive.

There is a huge stand of them in a yard in Tolleson... marie, you've probably seen it. On the east side of 91st in Tolsun Farms, just north of Van Buren. Huge trees. I'm always tempted to stop and ask their secret and ask for a pup. Rolling on the floor laughing

My banana looks just fine Detrick. Thanks for asking. ;-)
Actually they all look pretty ratty right now.
Spent a little time on Saturday looking through photos I took of them and couldnt find any that showed the cross stem section with a inflo.

This dwarf orinoco is at the age were it should produce an inflo this year.
I trimmed this one back about two weeks ago.
It's pushing growth but non of this is the inflo.
And more than likely because I did trim it back so far all this new growth being pushed out will freeze if it get colds enough.

I trimmed this one to show you what the inside looks like freshly cut.
Again, no inflo. If there was there would be a solid core about 1.5" thick I would have cut through.

Looking straight across.
Reason for this picture is to give you a perspective of this same cut 15 minutes later.
Within 15 minutes it pushed 1/8" of growth.
