Was told it is an older and under-appreciated species, but I had to have it when I saw it. Nice thick leaves, and it is still just a pup.

Supposedly a synonym for S. arborescens and certainly a rarity.

My Kleinia petraea is enjoying our wet cold weather. I am still learning how to grow this one, and so far it seems more active now than in summer. So in our very hot summer, it slows down and just resumes growth when temps cool down and gets more moisture from the rains, still doing good as long as low temps remain in the upper 30's to mid 40's.

Photo in Sept-Nov2014- still slow leaf growth and looks a bit dehydrated all summer long, and slowly perking in mid November.

Photo 17Dec2014 - leaves are much bigger, been drinking a lot of water, temps outside are cool. I thought it will be bad for it, but it seems to enjoy it more.

So I guess this plant behaves like Crassulas being more of an active cold weather grower.

I think the leaves look similar to jade leaves.

Just looks heavy, but not much. I am surprised how big the leaves grew though as it continues to get rained on. Hopefully we do not get any hard freeze later on..that's the thing that really stresses it out.

Adam, yup the leaves look similar to jade, that is why it's nickname is trailing jade.

I felt depressed most of today. My seeds germinating and taking care of my plants has helped me feel better.

Ahh! I now have the name. Thank you ATP & Tarev.
I have been growing this "Hanging Jade" Kleinia petraea for years.
Now I can tell buyers what it truly is.
Certainly looks like a jade.
Mine is about six feet long and about 5 years old.
I propagate it from cuttings when a branch gets sparse.
I cut up the whole branch into segments of two nodes and start in dirt.
Such a wonderful hanging plant.

Wow! Love your Kleinia petraea orchidbob! My plant is two years in my care. When I first got it last year, its tag was Senecio jacobsenii, then as with most cases, plants gets reclassified.

Hope my plant gets to that length! My plant growth gets tempered by the cold temps during Jan-Feb as it gets too cold stressed. But I like it, that is the time it gets rosy colored.

I got a call from my DIL. She won a Klanchoe at a Christmas party. I could tell her all about taking care of it but the one thing she really wanted to know I didn't know.
Are Klanchoe poisonous to cats? Do any of you know?
