My marigolds, Red Salad Bowl and Romaine have all germinated. Can't believe how fast. Granted I have a 2'x36" heat mat under them and that helps but still... I closed up the hoop cover on one raised bed (only 4x8'). The end toward the sun is defrosted down about 4" (the soil that is) but still have some snow and ice at the other end. I hadn 't closed up the ends but did so yesterday. Will see if that speeds up the process then put up the other two hoops.

This is one of my tomato beds, actually this is the biggest one. My idea last fall was to dress up the veggie gardens by planting crocus around them. So it would look pretty in the spring before veggies were planted.

A smaller tomato bed. This is the bed where I plant my Big Boy tomatoes. Has the same type of crocus planted around it. Also has Lily the dog in my picture. She was enjoying the day as I tried to get work done in the garden.

So I have my Bok Choi and Tatsoi seeds to start. Fixed up the pots that I plant them in. But I didn't get to them. I did plant my crimson clover and hairy vetch seed so that is one thing accomplished. Still lots to do to be ready for spring. And while it was nice most of the day, the wind really came up now and it feels cold so drove me inside for the day.

They predicted frost for us again last night after several days in the 70s. I'm still waiting to sow outside.

We can have frost up till May 10th or so. Bit I usually plant my tomatoes out much earlier than that.

I knew there was something I forgot to do today. I wanted to pick up onion sets at the local nursery while I was out doing errands today but I totally forgot. Maybe I will go get them tomorrow.

I don't remember you doing onions last year, Rita. But hey, what do I know!

Came back to a garden even more full of weeds. But the strawberries are just loaded with blossoms, there is some lettuce ready to pick and we did pick about a pound of asparagus!!! Yummy!

Also had some flowers blooming, even a couple of lilac bushes! Very excited about that!!! There's more but I'm too tired! Going to bed very early since we got up at 2:30 to come home today!

Arlene, you always have more work than you can handle in your garden. But lots of yummy veggies and beautiful flowers to show for it.

I did have onions last year. Maybe I just didn't say much about them but I planted them.

What I've planted so far this year.

I planted lima beans, pole beans and snap peas.
Roma tomatoes, beefsteak tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, onions, carrots, sweet basil and nasturtiums.
Chives, more sweet basil, broccoli, cauliflower, beets and arugula.
Cut open a spaghetti squash from the store and the seeds had sprouted inside. Never had that happen, but considered it a blessing and planted some of the sprouts in one hill and another hill with just dried spaghetti seeds. Can't wait to compare the two hills.
Planted more strawberries and two blackberry canes.
Planted box basil and opal basil.
Stevia in pots. Can't wait for them to get bigger so I can get cuttings and grow them everywhere. I'm diabetic but love sweetened tea. I prefer honey, but need an alternative, so I really mean everywhere, indoors and outdoors.

I live in the city and rent my apartment/duplex with a huge front yard, so some things I only planted a few plants, like the broccoli and cauliflower. I love broccoli but haven't liked growing it in the past. I especially don't care much for growing cauliflower. So those guys don't get much room. But I have at least four of each kind of tomatoes. Much more than the roommate and I can eat, but I plan to donate some to charities if I don't find a way to freeze and can the extra. If it were my house, I'd have many more plants because there is a lot of yard space I haven't claimed for my edibles.

I'm hoping to get eggplant seeds this week. Not really interested in the black beauties, but that's about all I've ever seen around here. I may have to order some online. Hoping to find my mexican tarragon, cinnamon basil, pineapple mint, bee balm, and blue hyssop seeds at the same place so I don't have to pay an arm and leg in shipping from multiple places.

That's all so far.

CKat, you are really on fire. I have a commercial seed packet of spaghetti squash that I keep on meaning to plant. My last try resulted in no germination.

Gleni, plant the spaghetti squash. Plant the spaghetti squash. </end chant>

A lot of people like cucumbers and zucchini squash, but I'll take the spaghetti squash ten fold. Although I've been itching to try some butternut squash some year. I've had to pass on some butternut squash recipes that looked so yummy I thought about them for days. I've only eaten them once.

Thanks Critter. It has dropped to a Category 1 but is still making its way down the coast. Apparently it decreased in intensity as soon as it crossed the coast last night. They are saying the area has "dodged a bullet".

I am about 1000miles away but I have friends and family up there. I have still to hear from ones in Cooktown, which was worse hit.

You are going to have a fabulous garden! About where are you located? Do you see on the right side top of each post most of us have something filled in? Maybe you would like to go to your user profile and add your general location and things like that. It helps when you post for us to give you advice.
