Well, Brett, if beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I guess it follows that our noses smell what we expect them to smell ? ! Like I said, I can usually say, "It smells good!", or "that stinks", but until some one points out that it smells like" whatever", I can't put a name to the aroma, but, once that thought is in my head, THEN I can! Considering the size of my nose.... ..I SHOULD have a GREAT sense of smell !....Arlyn

HEHEHEH!! My "scentiments" exactly! I have a rose, "Sonia" (Rose (Rosa 'Sonia')) that supposedly smells wonderful. I don't know, mine stinks to high heck. To me, smells strongly of pepper and the stench sticks to my hands even after 3-4 good heavy washings. If she wasn't a reliable bloomer, I'd shovel-prone her. But she's one of my best bloomers.

I always hesitate to join the conversation when people are asking about scent, because everything has a scent to me. I have the nose of a bloodhound, I guess. All iris are scented. Iris pallida, the grape one, is probably the most highly fragranced.
Debra, I've never had Kool Aid so I guess that's why I call it Grape Nehi. I remember driving by the Nehi bottling factory once as a kid and the smell was overwhelming.
How many of you can smell lightning?

I can smell the ozone if it is close enough. But being able to smell it means it is TOO close!

I love that smell.
Some cultivars of Irises I have have no smell I can detect. I'm going tp pay closer attention to some of the others.

I had forgotten my SIL in OR had given me a few irises 2 years ago when we visited. This opened this morning! Anyone want to hazard a guess on it's name? She can't remember but does know she got it at Shreiner's which a skip and a jump from her house. I looked through their blues but they have so many...
