Check out this blog for great corn information. I never knew that the silk turning bown was evidence that the ears had been pollinated.

An old Indian told me to plant corn in a circle to help pollination, I believe he said 6' diameter will work. You might try that next time Jayne.

ooooooooooo...sorry Alan. I just find soil science fascinating. They say after a couple of days I should be able to see the protozoa with a hand held magnifying glass. I'll be looking tomorrow morning.

Well Parks is making the news but not in a good way. So far the fire is moving away from us but one never knows with the wind as a factor.

Jeez, that's a bummer Jayne. We just got back from 3 days near Strawberry and the daytime winds were fierce!

I found those piggies for $8 ea. I was stoked.
The good news is the fire is still moving away from Parks and is now 30% contained. Obviously it is smoky but the smoke is following the fire for the most part, not blowing back on us. My neighbor says it is bearable...just a whiff in the air. All the news people are in Parks right up Spring Valley Road. Everyone is hoping the winds don't pick up again until they can get more of a handle on things. Alas, that area is always windy so it is bound to return. Thank goodness I had cleaned up all the pine needles around the house and trimmed up some trees last week. The forest service will work harder to protect a house that has followed the standards for living in the forest than one that has not. The hardest part of living up there is taking down the trees you moved up there to be in but it is just to dangerous to let them be too close to the house.

Wow - love the piggies even more at that price! Glad to hear the fire is moving away from you Jayne. That would be really scary.

Thanks guys. Yep, everything is fine in Parks. The closest the fire came to me was 5 miles. On another note, deja vu moments on my porch...plane overhead...looked up and saw that old Lockheed subhunter the P3 Orion hauling retardant to the fire. Nice to see that old plane still in service.
