Easter Monday would be good as long as I don't have to sing. After four consecutive days of services with a few choir practices thrown in, my voice is gone.

Happy Easter everyone.

Wishing you a nice quiet day now, Jim, and a lovely Easter for everyone else, too. Very cloudy and cool today but great for taking pictures . . Ta Da

Finally open today, Blc. Anduril 'Krull's Scarlet' - two more nice spikes coming along as well. Hope they hold off a little bit for a nice succession of bloom.

I had a nice surprise yesterday -
the greenhouse is part of the upstairs, and we left the bedroom window looking into the greenhouse intact. So when I woke up yesterday I spotted some blooms on the very sunny top shelf against that wall right from my bed. No way, that old Dendrobium superbum is blooming?
Sure enough! A small spike, but since that plant had almost graced the compost pile 2 years ago and was sort of just dumped along on that top shelf, I was delighted.

Love that beautiful sweet Raspberry scent, so the plant hangs now at the entrance of the greenhouse.

What a nice surprise, Ursula. It is just beautiful.

Elaine, great color on your Blc. Anduril 'Krull's Scarlet'. I'll bet they are referring to Jim Krull. Did you buy that one up in Apopka?

I've just been loading orchids into the truck for tomorrow's Tampa Orchid Club meeting and show so I've been checking names. Six out of seven of the name tags had at least one error. Do you know what the correct name for our Phaius Microburst 'Wild Thing' is? Try Gastrophaius (Gp.) Micro Burst? Also, I have found Phaius spelled Phiaus in many official looking documents. What's with that? I have been posting pics of my beautiful Cym. Cotton Club. Now I find there is no such thing. It is Cym. Cotton Candy. My Blc. Golden Tang is now Rby. Golden Tang. My Blc. Ruben's Verde is now a Rsc. Ruben's Verde and so on. I'm telling you, I had to change 6 out of 7 tags for the show.

I did buy that red baby at The Source, directly from Krull-Smith, when we went last April. Also bought Bl. Elaine Taylor 'Krull Smith' on that trip, which is sadly languishing out in the quarantine ward after a battle with black rot and then scale! Won't see blooms on her any time soon, I fear.

Boy, you've been busy with the tagging exercise. You know what the result will be, don't you? Everyone will be confused anyway, and asking you what those names are.

Gastrophaius? That means it's a Phaius with a stomach. Phhooeyy. The Den is wonderful, Ursula. Raspberry scent? Wow. I am finally flying out tomorrow, new grandbaby will arrive sometme tonight.

Hurray! Hurray!
Elaine

Elaine, I am sending early congrats and very best wishes for an easy "arrival procedure"!
Fun times ahead!

Btw I had the very same thought regarding the Gastrophaius. Rolling on the floor laughing
Jim, your prep for the Orchid society meeting sounds like work!!

Today I put up the shade cloth over the deck, as soon as I don't see anymore < 40 degr. F night temps I am starting to move out the cooler C&S. Perhaps by the end of the week.
Moved things around to get at the Iwanagaara Appleblossom, I had to clean up a touch of scale and realized the Encyclia brassavolae turned into a huge monster over the Winter.
Here is the Iwanagaara

And my mounted old Leptotes bicolor has tons of buds and starts blooming this week.

Such lovelies, Ursula. I am relieved to see your Iwanagaara has the same coloration on the leaves as mine has. No amount of fert or magnesium supplement seems to relieve it, either. Such a delicate flower color on it, I sure hope mine blooms this year.

The new granddaughter is too darned comfortable in there - they may have to go for a c-section, unfortunately. I am packing my gardening gloves, and tomato plants and daylilies . . . Rolling my eyes. Green Grin!

Here's my Phaius Oktoberfest just starting up, while the others are nearly finished.

Thanks Elaine! Gardening while waiting - sounds like a plan….or at least when the baby will be/is sleeping.

Yes, the Iwanagaara got a bit too much sun this Winter, some of the leaves are downright reddish. I don't do enough fertilizing during the indoor season, it is just too messy and cumbersome. I tend to use more fish tank water inside.

Pretty Phaius! Lovey dubby

I've got an hour, I'll move Iwanagara out of the sun now, Thanks!

Yes, I have a couple of days at my son's house before new mom and baby come home, where I will plant an Earth Box for him and a wonderful new daylily, then will move to my daughter's when she gets home. I ordered strawberries and raspberries to plant there as well, so will be busy all around! Hope the weather cooperates!

You should try growing some Phaius, Ken. They'd do well for you with your cool greenhouse during winter, and under the oaks in summer.

Jim and I both bought that one above in Apopka last spring for $8 and they were in bloom then! Pretty, lusty, healthy plants in general.

In fact, you need to plan a road trip to come visit us down here, and stock up your orchids in Apopka - I'll bet you'd find it worthwhile!

Oh, Elaine, you tempt me so! Unfortunately, now is the time of year when I am most busy, posting all I have for sale, (finally) starting to ship everywhere, putting all my plants outside, and getting ready for my gourmet, organic, heirloom garlic harvest. And of course doing all the "common" things one must do around the house and yard.

Perhaps I can make a run south next fall (between football games) or winter. It also has been too long since I have spent time with my son and daughter-in-law, and they just happen to live in Sarasota!

Elaine, the baby picture posthaste please.

I'm working the MG desk at the Extension Service today. Lots of interesting questions coming in. Gotta run.
