floota said:Hmmm, in the south ( or even Mid Atlantic where I am) it isn't a good idea to ship wet because, esp. when it starts to get hot outside, can cause some to rot or get moldy. I do ship FRESHLY DUG plants, but plants are washed, dried, and then wrapped in newspaper ( dry.) Then we are at the total mercy of the USPS to get them there in 2-3 days so that they still look fairly fresh. Any daylilies are going to yellow some over the trauma of being out of the ground and shipped but they will recover in a few weeks. That is normal. Don't over water new plants!! Van Sellers taught me years ago that more new daylilies are killed by over-watering than anything else. Plant them, water them in, then leave them alone. Water 2-3 times a week. The ground is still so cold here that I am not putting anything new in the ground for a couple weeks. When you take a plant ( esp. one that has been shipped from a warmer climate than you) and put it in colder ground than it has been used to, that can set it back even more. One year someone sent me plants from LA earlier than I'd requested, and because I was heading out of town, I planted them in the ground. Almost all of them rotted within weeks. These were new expensive ones too. Ugh. Nowadays I generally tell sellers early May at their convenience and if the ground hasn't warmed up yet, will pot them up for a few weeks.

So far this season, USPS has done OK. I'm hoping that black hole that a few packages fall into each year has disappeared. Last year it was located somewhere between LA and TX!!

Great advice!! I Think they have UPS picking up some packages for them, maybe that will close a few gaps. LOL.

They look good, mine are always dry. Usually wrapped in damp or dry newspaper. I soak them in diluted MG and then pot them up. Like Floota said you want to wait till the soil gets warm before you plant them in the ground.
What did you get? Who were they from? I'm all ears!

Email messages last night that two lots have been posted. Been waiting awhile but they tend to wait till after Easter to dig. So excited. One said my bonus is three fans of Danny Steve Mitchell. Too good.

My order from Mark Sattelmeier arrived today, and it included Sharks do Bite as a gift.

There were 30 individually packed and labelled daylilies. Maybe tomorrow I will have time type the list of all that arrived.

Well I guess I am going to still be waiting a while on mine. Sad I received a reply to an email I sent (the title was "just checking") inquiring about shipping of my plants. I got a 3 paragraph reply about how the winter was long about how much it has been raining and how this person is a one person operation. I think there was some attitude there. Glare . I was just wondering when to expect my plants. I spent over $200, not sure I will spend any more with them. May not be much for some. I simply asked when to expect my plants. Geesh! Sad

I purchased daylilies from him last year and only the bags were labeled. Thanks for reminding me, I need to make some labels for what I purchased so I can tag them before I soak them. He has awesome plants though, did you bid on all those. I do not like bidding, it slows me down a lot. I would rather just buy it. Whistling

Susan, I did bid on them all. Sometimes I like the excitement of the auction.
Plus, it was a winter activity when I did have more available time.

I also need to make labels.

Poor Catherine, you just can't seem to get a break. On the flip side I had a box of daylilies show up at my door unannounced! Completely caught me off guard, no shipping notice, no email, no nothing, no warning. Did I mention they did not tell me they were shipping? LOL.
I know a lot of sellers are one or two people operations, but to me a lot of vendors fail miserably when they have to deal with a buyer who works full time. We just need to plan our days because we are busy too. I would also like and need to know when they are shipping. I do consider it rude and will probably not order from them next year. Everyone has their own circumstances, so there is no perfect sellers or buyers, just count this as an experience and move on, you will meet others that you can work with so just use those sellers. Thumbs up

Winter activity! I like that but, unfortunately I have not been looking for extra activities. LOL.

Just take it with a grain of salt Smiling ..... I know it is aggravating when you don't get a response or the one you get you feel has attitude. Trust me I know because I buy also and it's even worse when you keep waiting and waiting for a $1600 order (not from LA but they do sell on there) and finally email with no response and then finally call and they can't find your order or where you paid and then they email back saying they did find it and then it still takes another month to get them. So I waited almost 4 months for mine and if I wouldn't have called I would most likely still be waiting.
It was the same last year, I placed my order I believe in October (didn't expect it until April) and then the wife was calling someone else about their order and I happen to be there and said she could ship mine too. Well, she couldn't find my order and I had to tell her what it was again. Then she called back and said she couldn't find where I had paid and could I check with my bank to see if and when it had cleared (this was the second check I sent because the first apparently didn't make it there). I did and it had been cashed way back in October. After that then she had to wait until the husband got back in town to find my order out in the greenhouse; I finally got my plants in May.
They have terrible customer service; I know they are really stretched thin with everything they do daylily related and their own business outside of daylilies plus a slew of other things but if they plan to sell then they really need to get better organized somehow. I emailed them back in December about a club order and didn't get a response back until March so needless to say they lost an order there (not that they needed it).
