Thanks Mary Ann.
Paul, I use round, base wide metal tomato cages, Most are about 5ft. tall. a few are shorter. They seem to withstand the wind and stay standing.

I will be 58 tomorrow. Unless some of the grandchildren come, I am the youngest or second youngest person at the Iris Society events. BUT, a lot of these iris folks in their 80's are definitely more healthy and upright than the general population of the same age, so it must be good for us.

Be careful. Use soft mulch. Canes and walkers with chairs help a lot of folks. I have inner ear damage. If I start wobbling from dizzy spells, I am gonna get me some of those props. It is just good physics. I already use a child's step up stool to sit while I weed. That may be too low for some folks. A 5 gallon bucket upside down, might be better.

Also, work out in the Winter. The more our muscles support our bodies, the better. There are simple, easy-ish workouts on youtube.com that help one from becoming bored with exercise.

Next Spring we will be the model iris forum. Thumbs up

Happy Birthday to both of you.

I use a cane for the rough ground in the garden. Not in the house. It folds up if I need to. I do use a kneeler which flips over as a seat.

Happy birthday Linnea and happy belated birthday MaryAnn. This is my first time replying to one of these forums but I feel like I know some of you because I 've been reading a lot of your comments to each other. I tried to add my two cents one other time but I could not log on.

welcome Barbara. Glad to hear from you and congratulations for successfully completing another annual trip around the sun! May you make many more successful and enjoyable ones. I 'lurked' on here for many months before I decided to join the group. They are a great bunch of gardeners and iris lovers!
