I really had no business ordering any daylilies, or looking at the Lily Auction, or arranging trades.... Really!

But look at the Lily Auction I did... Whistling

Incoming for a variety of reasons, be it pollen dabbing (against various things I already have) or the Moon Garden or it just plain interests me and "I'll find a place" Rolling on the floor laughing :

AIRDRIE
ALL AMERICAN GIRL
A SERVANT'S HAND
tet BROCADED GOWN
CLOCKWORK
EMERALD GLOW
IDA MAE NORRIS
IN HIGH REGARD
LIBBY GALLION
PINK TITAN
RUBY LOCKET
WILLIAM SEAMAN

BLACK FALCON RITUAL is kind of an id check purchase for me (and a warning to others to not do something similarly stupid). I had it originally from Curt Hanson but it did not do that well for me (probably because it was in a pot in too much shade, duh?). I moved it into the garden (where it again got too much shade). I decided to punt it, and had some garden helpers dig and remove it. (I do much of the garden work here, but not lawn mowing, climbing on ladders (to trim high hedges), and preferably not digging in heavy clay. (I tore my rotator cuff a few years ago, almost certainly from dividing some irises, and I'd rather not re-experience something like that again.)) Not that long after BFR was dug out, two fans came up near (not exactly at) where the plant was. Now, my helpers have messed up before and left fans behind, so were these BFR? Were these seedlings? (I couldn't remember if I had tried hybridizing with it, and sometimes I am slow to collect seeds... but I didn't think so.)

By now I had changed my mind about the plant (and was regretting that it was gone), so I potted up the two fans and waited until I got bloom again (which was last year - however many years that took). It looked like BFR to me (as much as I could recall), so back into the garden it went (in a different part). But I still had/have qualms about its identity (BFR or seedling?).

Someone had it for sale on the LA this spring. I told him about my ID crisis with the maybe-BFR double fan, and he told me something interesting - that his plant tended to send up new fans some distance from the mother plant. So maybe that is what mine did. (At any rate, I will have a known (I hope) BFR from him to compare my fans to.)

And finally, several Mike Huben cultivars:

CLARITY OF PURPOSE
EARLY AND OFTEN
FROM DARKNESS COMES LIGHT
LET ME BE CLEAR
SNOWY STELLA
TWIST AGAIN
WHITE AND NERDY (DH, DD, and I are all "white and nerdy" so how could I not get this? Thumbs up )
YEARNS TO BE CLOUDS

I am kind of bemused by these last. I had zero Huben cultivars prior to this year, and in fact had cut down my diploid cultivars to a relative handful that I did not want to give up (including a few seedlings), and was adding only tets to the garden (and pollen dabbing with only tets). But FROM DARKNESS COMES LIGHT just looks too cool not to have in the garden, and the white ones could surely be squeezed into the Moon Garden? And while mine is not a "northern" garden requiring "northern rebloom", I am beginning to get interested in such cultivars (and their hybridizing potential); anyway, the more rebloom, the better. So I kind of went whole hawg there on the Huben plants. *Blush*

Now someone please keep me off of the Lily Auction...

edited to add that some of the Huben plants I got from the Lily Auction, one from the Lily House, but others are incoming from Harmon Hill Farm (which sells Mike Huben's introductions)
Evaluating an iris seedling, hopefully for rebloom

Great list too Brian. Planet Max is a constellation - put it where it can be noticed to blow peoples' minds.

Kathy,

I had seen several on here in the same zone as me mention that they had Wonder of it All and that is the only reason I would buy it because several said it was northern hardy. I am anxious to have it, it is a lovely flower.

Me too ..... just planted it last year so I am looking forward to seeing it perform.

Actually one I bought was planted in the spring, then I got two double fans as gift plants in late Summer. The one's planted in late Summer came from California and have increased and look great too. (by late Summer I mean late August or September)

I did get a bloom on the Spring planted one which came from "Isis" who is Ginny Pearce of Michigan :

I didn't order these but went to a meeting where Herbie Phelps was speaking. It was held at the Western KY Botanical Garden. He brought some of his intros and some from Gossard, Kroth and a couple others. No one was in a bidding war there, I got some great deals! Plus, part went to support the Garden. I have donated dls myself. It has a growing collection of several hundred.

Two years ago, I decided to revamp my gardens and spent the summer moving things so I was happy with where everything was located. I have a dear friend in SC who raises beautiful iris and Daylilies, and her son talked her into moving near him in Denver. She wanted to send me a "few" of her very favorite Daylilies so I could return a piece to her someday. I was expecting maybe ten or so, but to my amazement there were over 45 plants in that box. What a wonderful gift!! It covers all my birthdays forever, lol!!!
