And mine! The central growing point is not going to make it but look at all that Medusa action going on around it!

Lol, I think I planted mine wrong--I laid it sideways. I'm looking at Medusa and Jaws and I think I see why I don't see a growing tip yet. Is sideways okay?

Sorry, never grew one before so I have no idea if sideways will work.
Hopefully someone else will chime in.

Wow, those puppies are all doing great guys.

One comment on mulching Colocasia. If you look at the way new tuber is added with the current seasons growth, you'll notice that roots form on the added tuber. For this reason I remove bark type mulches out to a few feet from the main shoot. I mound compost or a soil compost mix for these new roots. In these pics you can see that these new roots will be forming at or above the soil level of the original planting. The Kohina may be only an inch or two below the soil level.

I think yours are fine Dave. What I've done as the plant gets bigger is move the wood chips to the side and mound up better material. When I scuff up the compost to discourage weedlings, I often disturb near surface roots. Doh! I do it EVERY year!

I started to pull back the mulch this afternoon but there were roots right under the surface of the mulch, growing inside the mulch. I'll leave them be.

So ideally should they be planted like Kabby's, with a portion of the bulb sticking out? Mine is in a large pot.

Sounds good Dave. I wouldn't worry about adding soil for a couple months, but that's up here. Our night temps are still in the 50's as often as not. Kabby has what will be the new tuber growing above the soil level and I have no experience with that. I think adding compost/soil helps the new tuber grow it's own roots to draw nutrients and bulk up.

I tend to plant shallower than I should. In fact in my picture you can see white roots in the right lower corner of the tuber. I will add some compost to it now that it has some growth and rot is not such a big concern. I have bananas, gingers, and crinum in this same bed so I water heavily in this particular area.

Thank Kabby! I have them in pots, too afraid to put them in the ground, we have gophers. I may try planting them in a gopher cage though.

I planted my bulbs in individual pots. They were just starting to peek through...............we were gone from Tuesday morning till this afternoon (Thursday). Holy moses..............did they ever grow in that short amount of time. But...........it was hot and it rained. They think they are back in the tropics, I guess. LOL
