Here is the Duvalia corderoyi pot, the growth is very small. Sometimes there are more of the short pieces to fill out the pot and then I lose again some. This is not an easy plant under my conditions, I will move it to Dyno-rok soon.

And - the whole pot showing the Stapelia flavopurpurea growing without soil. I used the stones which are aways on the bottom of CHC Orchid mixes.

I hesitate to put this here as it isn't a "houseplant" in this part of the country, but to you in the more temperate climates it would be, and it was given to me as a houseplant. After finding out what it was, and reading up on the care "gently remove the pups, and repot seperately, as the mother plant will die after blooming", I figured I would probably kill the poor thing, so I took it out of it's pretty basket and set the whole pot out under the lemon tree, and ignored it. That was four years ago, and as near as I can tell, the mother plant is alive and well in the center of this 6" pot. this is Aechmea fasciata today...Thumb of 2010-08-18/ctcarol/22891d

Thanks kathy, but I really can't take any credit. I sprinkle it occasionally, and pull off the dead leaves. I'm hoping the mixed pot of bromiliads behind it will be as forgiving. I've "almost," learned to live with our so called "Mediteranian climate". (spelling), after 55 years. I still have my heart in the Northwest, so I do experiment, but I don't have enough space to deal with things that don't do well here. The orchids are the only plants that I baby, and even those have to make it or not.
Speaking of things that do well here, are your Epiphyllums rooting?

Returned from 5 weeks in the Four Corners area to find four pots of epiphyllum oxypetalum full of buds. Had to go to Illinois for a long week-end and when we retuned, all of the buds had turned upward. Friday night part of them opened, more last night with 5 more buds left to open and the sunroom is still filled with their fragrance this morning. I have counted 40 flowers in all -- a real bonanza!Thumb of 2010-08-21/rocklady/3ba677
