Lindsey, these are cuttings from my grandmother's plant and they spend their days in our sunroom. A wonderful neighbor comes in and waters them and talks to them when we are away. The only "fertilizer" I give them is banana peels. They must be related to monkeys!

Certainly not as dramatic as Jean's but last night my one bloom on Cereus hildmannianus subsp hildmannianus opened.

It hasn't stopped pouring, so I had to take some pictures in the rain -
Echinopsis Princess Anne ( another Schick hybrid) is blooming today on the deck.

I got this one in a trade many years ago labeled as Huernia herrei, but it might be Huernia hystrix. In any case, this is a very small Stapeliad with cute blooms.

My Hildewintera aureispina aka Rat tail cactus manages to produce some blooms here and there throughout the Summer.
The original growth on my plant is cristated and - if one wants to concentrate on this type of growth, it is recommended to cut off the straight/normal growth, which I never do since I also like the blooms. Central - and South American visitors always take a shine to this plant and ask for cuttings. No problem, the healed cut always produces a few pups.

Great pictures, Kathy and Ursula. After three late nights, I'm catching up on my sleep! Wish you ladies would send some rain our way. Still very hot and dry in AR. Thumb of 2010-08-23/rocklady/b8ddd4

Excuse the crazy angle. I was lying on the floor in the dark trying to capture this one.

Yes, stumbling around in the dark, hoping not to trip over DH's tripod in his makeshift "studio." Granted his photos are better, but I have more fun doing crazy things!

Enjoyed the articles on you, Ursula and Jim. WOW. Each of you should write a book!
