I spent all of last weekend cleaning up the garden and getting ready for spring. The two freezes and a couple of frosts did some damage but I seem to be recovering nicely I may well have escaped any losses of major plants. Here are some pics:

Jim

The mango tree, thanks to Xmas lights and the tent I built is in pristine condition. Here you can see the corner steaks used to hold the tent in place and also note the tree is in bloom.

The lychee tree lost the tips of a couple of branches but I have pruned them off and it looks great.

The Tibouchina lost all of its leaves but renewal is here.

I did lose some bedding plants, especially in the yellow garden but those can be replaced. Look what's blooming:

Jim

Golden cestrum was unhurt.

The Tabebuia is beginning its show. In another week it will transform itself into a 30 foot golden monolith that will take your breath away.

This orange jasmine is 12 feet high and 8 feet in diameter. It is covered in white flowers that fill the entire garden with the fragrance of sweet perfume. If you can grow it in your climate and have the room, this plant is a winner.

This tricolored stromanthe did much better this winter than last. Great plant to brighten up a shady spot.

Good and bad news on the ground orchids. All of my nice Spathoglottis plicata orchids are dead. Angry They were under a tree and covered with blankets but they didn't make it. The Phaius and Bletilla orchids were in small enough pots that I could bring them in the garage and they are fine. No damage to the cyms nor the Nun's cap.

I left the palm Laurel found for me in Miami in the pot and brought it inside the garage a couple of times. It is doing fine and I put it in the ground yesterday. Here is the Cliff date palm or Phoenix rupicola in its new home.

I may have lost the clustering sugar palm (Arenga engleri). It was small and sickly going in so I'm not surprised. I'll replace it. I had some damage to the piccabeen palm (Archontophoenix cunninghamiana). It may or may not make it. Here is a pic:

This toddy fishtail palm (Caryota urens) has some damage but will be just fine.

I just wanted you to see the thorns on this taraw palm (Livistona saribus). By the way, it's the only palm that produces blue fruit.

Ending on a positive note, my ribbon palm (Livistona decora) is just majestic.

Jim, you did a great job and everything looks beautiful! Looking forwards to the Tabebuia tree in full bloom. I fell in love with both pink and golden species during our Brazil trip!

Does anyone have experience with Fatsia? Mine got hit
pretty badly with the cold winter and the crowns look to be
dead..will this continue to grow from the side leaf nodes, or
should I replace it?

My heart goes out to you guys Group hug
When I was flying , it used to kill me to have to dig out the car at the airport after flying in from Asia, being awake for 30 hours..
usually the only tool I had to even get in the car was my high heels and a wine opener!
I hope this cheers you up..Daffodil 'February Gold' and Crocus 'Spring Bouquet'
