Just beautiful, Kathy! Love the Bleeding Hearts!
I miss them from my Massachusetts gardens. They are tough to grow here (too hot), even in the shade.

Yes, you can grow them, but it's too much babying for me. Full sun perennials are easiest in my gardens.
For instance, the columbines. I most likely won't see them again. I have tried many times, but even my shadier beds get too hot for them.
Those USDA Zone maps only tell part of the climate story. They need to really work on them. Low temps need to be combined with high temps to complete the climactic "picture" of an area.

Hilarious! Janice you ought to try the west coast! We have our own climate map from Sunset Western Garden Book. It shows 24 zones west of the Rockies, and still can't cover all the micro climates here. Hilarious!

Back from Iris heaven, called "Mom's Out of Control Hobby". Thelma (Mom) started this in the 1950's, so some excellent older varieties. Every year they add lots of new ones they get from Shreiners and Cooleys.
What a sight and in high bloom today.
Iris are perfect for North Carolina , as they love to be hot and dry! And we have plenty of that.
I will return later this week (maybe tomorrow! LOL) and take some more expansive photos.
Really no time today, as the diggers were so busy and a backup of people waiting. We walked around the fields with the digger (Mom's daughter, a real peach!)
Once we paid for everything, I was weighted down with bags and tired feet!

This is todays' haul, Mother's Day gift from my son.
They were barely recognizable when we got home, as they were squished in the tiny trunk of a Corvette, because it has no back seat. grrrrr...

The founder of the Iris Farm, "Mom". She is 90 and says she loves to weed. She was a joy to talk to!

Her daughter dug Irises for us. She told us she fertilizes with 3-9-9 Tobacco fertilizer, available only to farmers.
She also said they never water the fields, even in drought! (near constant here)
