Jim, wonderful walk-about! You have lots of very interesting plants.
Odessa will have a fly party.... Whistling

The bloom on my wonderfully scented Angel Amorphophallus collapsed yesterday, now I can wait for the beautiful foliage.

I was so surprised to see them growing wild, its a small wooded path in the middle of suburbia! There is tons of the white trilliums and Jack-in-the-pulpit, its kind of like finding an oasis in the middle of the desert.

When i was a kid in NJ, I would find a lot that had a stream where no one could build and spend hours there every week in my "jungle". I would make tiny villages near the water or in hollows of trees and I got to know all the wildflowers and weeds without names. My secret life!

Isn't it amazing what one can find, especially if your eyes are tuned in to it? I always wonder what I missed....

First iris? It's an SDB so a little short one but it is so graphic! It's called Snow Tree and I have planted it many times but this is the first time it's bloomed!

I always used to spend time in the woods too! There was lots of wild Hepaticas, Trilliums ect. and if I didn't know the name I would come home and look it up in the wildflower book my brother bought me....which I still have Smiling

I love them both!
And yes Steven, I think that is a good way to learn and it is fun.
I did ( still do) similar, taking walks at our place in Pennsy and then trying to identify. That's when I realized that many books and now the internet never really showed you the whole thing/plant, blooms and proper perspective and I started my first picture book with ids. There are a couple of plants I am still not 100% sure of their names.

I was just out taking pictures of Vandas hanging in the trees when I spotted this hibiscus blooming about ten feet up. It's a nice double.

I finally located a Grugru palm (Acrocomia totai) today and just got back from picking it up. I'll take a pick once I get it in the ground.

Jim

Here is a nice yellow daylily.

I'm not sure what kind of lily this is but it's big and I love the color.

I think I am amassing a giant stinkbomb and could well be arrested on terrorist charges at any moment. I only hope it doesn't take the paint off of the side of the house. Note one bud had already gone off, keeping me from turning on the hose attached to that side of the house. Also note the foliage beginning to rise from around the "flowers". It is the reward for enduring the smell.
