I think the sugar beet industry is disappearing in America and Europe. It appears to be out-competed by cheap wages and bumper sugar cane harvest in third world counties.

The problem is that when you are young your life it is ruined by your parents. When you are older it is ruined by your children.

I agree - found a recipe for Green Apple Cassis Jelly....DH hit the Farm & Fleet on the way home for jelly jars so I'm gonna try my hand at canning this weekend. Never done it before so it will be an adventure! Hilarious!

Thumbs up , Catherine.

I made some type of cinnamon, green apple and pear compote one year and canned it. It's so good! We spread it on toast like a jam and top cereal and ice cream with it.

Oh no -- that's all Michigan would need, is to lose yet another industry... Blinking I wonder if our government subsidizes the sugar beet growers like they do a lot of other agricultural producers? Back in "the day" (as in, the 1970s or so) they were even paying farmers not to grow crops...

Wow, the garden was really buzzing with the bumblebees today -- I think they were as happy as I was that it wasn't raining!

Just had some fried Okra, some Green beans and some corn on the cob for lunch all out of the garden! MMMMMMMM. nodding Now I'm ready to mow the lawn, I have a huge pot of tomatoes cooking and I'll put them through the Kitchen Aide juicer to get the seeds and skins out to make sause later after it cools down some.
