Ruth,your gardens look wonderful.

I have opened the access door to the compost box. Will give the resident Voles time to vacate before I start shoveling that black gold onto the containers on the deck.

Cathrine : Last year about this time I was turning the compost over and rammed the spade into a nest. Killed a few babies. Its a mixed feeling of satisfaction and horror.

I'm fine if a predator wants to kill them. Especially after seeing the trails into planters where lily bulbs are sleeping, not to mention into the compost box and garden. I just cant bring myself to do the deed.

I was horrified and satisfied at the same time when I found out I could kill a mole. But that was several years ago. Don't think I could do it again

Anticipating the first blooms of my 2013 winter sown Leopard's Bane (Doronicum orientale 'Magnificum')...it has buds! Hurray! I was so worried that something would happen to it Sticking tongue out ...I only had one plant germinate and grow successfully.

Clematis are popping up everywhere, and they look very strong this year. Thumbs up The roses that are still showing some green are getting their very first leaves.

Several ornamental grasses that I thought were annuals have overwintered; now I really wish I'd kept track of their names. Hilarious! They might actually be in my list, but I'm too tired to try to figure out where to start looking tonight.

Your tulips are so pretty, Rita. Thumbs up

Haven't seen any hummingbirds here yet, but we'll be somewhat ready for them in advance. I picked up a half-dozen Anise-scented Sage (Salvia coerulea 'Black and Blue') yesterday at my favorite local greenhouse. Hurray! I was so happy to find them there!

Also picked up a flat of alyssum...just because it smelled good. Big Grin I'll plant those near the screen room, where hopefully, we'll be able to catch their scent.
