Here are some new and some updates from the OC. It's hot out there and no chance of rain they say.
First up, Rlc. Hwa Yuan Angel. Small plant with a single flower.
This is Psychopsis Mendenhall, alba form, with another flower.
Rhynochostylis retusa is blooming. One of these with 5 spikes won the blue ribbon at the last show.
Aerides odorata is also blooming. This huge plant is in a 12 inch basket with roots like a Vanda.
Epi. Pacific Rivalry is fully open and looking good. I recommend sunglasses.
Bc. Fladosa is now fully open:
Bct. Jack Sloniker has opened all 5 flowers. It is happily growing in a block of tree fern. This is a nice nodosa cross.
I wanted to give you an idea of what Enc. tampensis is doing.
Enc. Lee Ward is also blooming.
I'll close with some nice pics of Dendrobium Burana Green Star. It had two nice spikes but I broke one of them off hauling it to the orchid club meeting

I think you blinded me with that Epi! You should have put the sunglasses warning at the beginning of the post! Love what your Encyclia tampensis is doing. Mine is still a baby so it won't be like that for a long time. I've never seen one in the wild that big, but then again, I've only seen a few in the wild.
Oh Carol, it became clear after everybody's response. No problem
I was more worried that I posted something totally blurry....
Thanks!!
Jim, what a beautiful, beautiful show!!!! I love the Rhynchostylis retusa And I agree on the Encyclia tampensis. That one is simply out of control! Wow!

Your Enc. tampensis has a few (hundred) more flowers than mine. Magnificent! I'll bet the perfume knocks you out. Love the amazing Aerangis, too.
Melanie, I imagine they might not get as big or bloom as much in the wild just because they aren't getting fert, regular water and TLC that we lavish on our 'tame' ones. Even mine out on the oak tree still gets regular fert and water.
Cute little encore on my Den. nobile from TJ's.

Sure hoping that happens, although I'm not having much luck with Dens in general.
I'm afraid I'm losing the start you gave me from your big beautiful one, and the wonderful Yellow Song 'Canary' isn't looking too happy right now, either.
I'm a little mystified, to tell you the truth.

That's a beauty, Glen. Sounds like you're having way too much fun on your botanical tour?
Carol, sad to hear the mama plant of the Canary is not well. You have much more of an excuse for orchid decline than I do, what with your hot winter weather. We've had an absolutely wonderful spring, in general, here. Even the last three days have been what should be considered "cool" for Florida in June.

So far so good here, Spring weather-wise, sufficient amount of sunshine after some good downpours. It is raining right now, but supposed to clear up by afternoon.
I replaced all Waterlilies, none of my hardy plants came back after this hard Winter here. I think the pond was frozen solid all the way through. We took some firm tuber pieces and planted them into the shallow section of our Pennsy pond. Perhaps if they were to show some life, that would be lovely. Yesterday I went to Waterford Garden and picked up some more hardy Waterlilies and also 7 little Gambusia fish/Mosquito fish to join the Paradise fish crew.
I'm looking for L purpurata var Cinderosa AM/AOS....I've looked at the Orchid Forum and found some beautiful pictures of different varieties of L purpurata and think that was the best! I know these can get to be large, but upright and they look tidy but tall (2 feet). I have sdlys of the var schulteriana but it will be 2/3 years before they are blooming size. Does anyone know where I can get one now? Thx
I would always look first at Waldor Orchids and Silva Orchids. I got mine from Silva, and I know they have a whole bench of different beautiful purpuratas. You might want to call them, but if so I would do it soon since the Shore Orchid Festival starts tomorrow! So they get busy…
I really like the intense dark color of the lip contrast that to the faint blush of petals, very nice, now that one is a contender.
I may be moving before summers end, I found the house I want to retire in Corinth, Ms. I really should wait till this gets worked out, but the plants I acquire in spring always do so much better for me.
