ckatNM said:@Cinta, that was funny. I would not go out with a guy that showed a complete lack of respect for something that was important and meaningful to me, either. But, I bet it would have felt nice to put a dent in his truck. Even replacing the pot, it doesn't restore all of the sentimental value, does it? What did your daughter say about the incident?.

Kat, my daughter came out and was going to conk him because she thought he was attacking me. I was screaming at her not to hurt him. She was raised by a crazy Mom if she thought he was hurting me it would have gotten ugly fast. He was just trying to grab my arm and get the hammer out of my hand and calm me down.

Once things calmed down and I told her what happened she went and got the receipt and talk to him about replacement. He was shocked at the price. He really realized the value when he saw the hundreds of dollars he had to pay to replace the pot.

....... He tackled me and we were rolling around on the ground as he was trying to get the hammer out of my hand. It was a pot my daughter had given me for my birthday and it was a large expensive hand painted Talavera pot.

In the end he did apologize and pay for the pot and said he had never seen a woman with my strength and asked if I would go to dinner with him. Idiot like I would go out with someone that did not care about my pots. Rolling on the floor laughing

We just came indoors from our project and my young fella is getting cleaned up. He needed a complete dunk, scrub and rinse but we had fun. Hilarious!
We made three for starters; a square, one taller piece that may be angled out from a round bottom, and a small piece out of a different fabric. I doubt the third piece will end up being much of anything, but you never know until you try.

Thanks for the idea and the tips! It was a fun experience; however it turns out. Thumbs up

It IS a fun experience Chelle!

Don't you dare give up after your first try now.

When I first started hypertufa pots, only my third try was truly inspiring. After that I was forever a believer. The kinks get worked out.

Remember that I've been working with concrete and hypertufa a few years. This towel technique creates its own art and I wish I had know about it earlier.

Can't wait to see your pictures and see the success'!

You have more faith than I do, David, but my shuffle feet do want to slide on out to the barn and check on them already, and it's only been a couple of hours! Hilarious!

Dinner is done and over though, so as soon as I get a zinnia (and pals) area finished I'm out there. Whistling

It's very crumbly at this point. Question? The cement I bought didn't slur together very well; the solid sank, leaving a thin layer of water on top. Is this normal do you think? I thought it would be more like the consistency of paste.

Just today I saw some at my local nursery. It was in a big roll and sold by the yard.
I expect a fabric store like JoAnnes might have it too.

I bought this 50 lb package of burlap remnants years ago and have used it for more things you than you can imagine. It is a good natural weed block for the bottom of a raised bed, or just for an area. I also upholstered a chair with it, along with a lot of other things. Used it for the papier mache' drapes as the layer over the armature before the papier mache' was added. And since I have a few yards left (the remnants are huge) I'm going to use it for these pots.

http://www.dickblick.com/produ...

Maybe if you do this with friends and could split the cost it wouldn't be so bad, because 50 pounds of burlap is a lot of burlap. You can also order it by the yard from lots of places, just google burlap yardage if you have trouble finding it.

I thought as big as the gleam is in David's eye that maybe the link might be helpful to him. Smiling

Ours seem to be firm enough to stand without their forms this morning, but I'm thinking we'll add another layer or two of mix before we're through. Smiling

Smiling ;...and in fact I did mix up a thinner slurry mix for a couple of my pots to chelle. I did it in a bus pan type container and rolled the hardened pots in it and used my hands to re-coat the entire pots like icing inside out and all over.

Then reset the pots for another redry overnight. Some I just painted extra slurry on the next day with a brush, after hosing them down to re-wet them first. It created a much stronger and smoother surface too...

Your first projects sound very promising and will be looking forward to seeing your success'! Thumbs up

Yes David my eyes crossed too. If he had not shrugged like it did not matter my temper might have stayed in check. He was charging me thousands of dollars to drop 15 trees and act like "so what I broke your pot". I just saw red and his truck he was so proud talking about the day he brought me the estimate bragging how good business was he could buy a new truck but my pot did not matter.

Well I got everything ready today and decided to just do it in the garage. We are under a flood watch. Usually when we get severe storms like this we are without power for hours so I will have something to do today. So should be able to show some pots soon too.

I have a big square tub that I could use for dunking, but I like the brush and fingers ideas best, I think. Less slurry would have to be made at a time...and it's more fun. Big Grin

Glad to hear that you're getting started, Cinta. Thumbs up

I accidently broke another pot trying to re-arrange things for making a new batch. So, I won't be painting until I get another batch ready to paint. No point in opening one of the paint cans just yet, for just two small pots. Now I just have to find the energy to start the next batch. I'm losing energy faster than I can refill it with all the squash bug hunting, swamp cooler breaking, walking and training Itty Bitty, laundry, weeding, watering, stressing, etc.

I am going to stay in bed today as much as I can. Still doing laundry, but I just don't have the energy to fill up the clotheslines, so I will just let the clothes I hung a little while ago get dry. Then no more for a couple days. Besides, I didn't get around to doing the clothes I don't mind getting cement on - they are drying on the line now. I can't very well work on the cement pots while all naked. The neighbors would talk, and I live on a busy street, so there would probably be accidents as well. Hehehehehe. Well, I almost laughed at the thought. More like a smirk.

I think going out to pick a tomato or two this week would have made me a bit more enthusiastic. But I can't overcome the disappointment of all the energy spent on the garden since February and very little harvested. The way my body feels, I don't think I'll be able to do any gardening next year, to plan better. I may very well have to kill off the roommate if he decides to till my herb bed and expand any of my beds again. Then he made me shelves for my pots, most of the pots came from my neighbor. And there is the very solid chicken coop we got from the neighbor, the roommate is converting into a cold frame. And he has a potting bench in the works. Most of his projects are done after the time I need to start making use of them. Then I rush rush rush to catch up. He likes to keep busy tinkering and the more he tinkers, the more work I get to do just trying to enjoy how thoughtful he is to make more stuff for me. Although it feels more and more like excessive working, and less enjoyment. All the joy is in my mind. My body wants to evict my mind for dreaming. I think my mind has been planning its own mutiny. Hehehehehe.
