Holey is next Bev. Great for Orchids then!

Hopefully the Moley would be mosses growing on them after the right moss and yogurt bath on those natural pots.

Thank You and Sharon! Smiling

Fantastic, David! Thumbs up

Our first ones have made it up to the covered but sunny part of our deck, and there they sit. I was temporarily sidetracked by another project, but it's finished enough for now. Tomorrow I really do want to add more coating; weather permitting. Smiling

David, those are beautiful!! Now I am rethinking waiting to do this. I was going to wait until they were working on the roof and use their cement but tonight I couldn't stop thinking about those lovely pots of yours. It dawned on me, we are getting part of the roof tiled, that it would be a lot smarter to make my mess now and then they can tile over it and it's gone.

I have cement in the garage for small repairs and hanging things, my house is made of stone and cement, and I have buckets and I have thick rags. My only question is can I use plain cement, not concrete or quik crete but the cement powder? Should I add anything to it like sand? or some kind of oil or glue they put in cement to make it more waterproof?
A day without sunshine is like, you know, night.

It sounds to me that what you have is plain portland cement which is just the cement powder from your description Jonna.
Quickrete here has too much sand and our concrete has rocks. My first attempt at hypertufa substituting sand mix (Quikrete) was a crumbly disaster.

I never have added additives other then vermiculite, perlite, or seived or hand uncluped peat moss. For this cloth technique it is important to have more cement. 2/3 cement, 1/3 perlite or other choice.

Think really thick cake batter. Pourable and easy to squish your pre-dampened cloth in, and not loose and runny.

Good Luck! I'm glad you're gonna' try it and these will look great in your tropical world. Looking forward to seeing them soon! Smiling

WOW Nellie.....Can I give you one Million Thumbs up for that paint job.

The colors would look great in one of those succulent undersea designs.

Some new paint went on a couple more today, and only a few more touch-up layers will be needed on these.

These pots also lend themselves to creating Old-World looking Woodland/Tropical Jungle effects in Lichen like and brown tones.......These are fun.

I picked up a bag of Portland cement today. I was using Quikrete before that and I didn't care for it.

A 94 pound bag was the smallest I could get! Rolling on the floor laughing I'm afraid unloading that bag is going to be of the push, shove and drop variety. Rolling my eyes.

Nice lichen-look, David. Big Grin

I got a 40 lb bag at HD last year and that was more than I could handle.

try putting some in smaller containers to move it out of the car but it does get everything dusty and is not good to breathe,

I thought of that, too, but didn't really want that much dust in the vehicle. I'm going to try dragging it out and dropping it down onto my garden wagon...then split it up out in the open air. Luckily, I long ago added a big piece of cardboard to the bed...it'll slide at least. Smiling

These pots create their own art. I know you all will be surprised with what happens if you try it. Wet the cloth and wring well first. Only Portland Cement as the agent and thick cake batter will secure overnight success. Paint on another layer in some cases. Towels are the best as the suck it in from both sides. Squish a lot! Lift and drop............ Thumbs up It will work. Smiling
