I buy containers at Big Lots and The Christmas TreeShop in spring.
I leave the large ones ( 18 to 20 inch ) out all winter so they need to be a resin not ceramic.

HollyAnnS said:I use water crystals in all my containers, a real plant saver for me. Years ago when I was still working I would see a plant on my way out the door and think when I get home I have to water that. By the time I got home they were languishing. Then I started mixing water crystals into my potting soil and never had that problem again.
These are my new head planters, I was looking for something kind of hair like but I just fell in love with these Sparks Will Fly Begonias,

Yeah, I do the same thing - "I'll water them when I get home..." Never works. Seems like I should figure that out and change my ways at some point. The moisture control potting soil has the crystals in it - and they do help for sure, but the pots still need to be watered when they need it! Duh!

I still find that hard to understand Bev. That head planter is a treasure.

Holly, great head planters and that begonia is awesome.

Hubby really liked the head, she didn't. When he passed early and left her with a nursery to take care of in addition to two small children, she was upset every time she saw that head. And then I happened into the nursery one day... Whistling

Yummy! Is that a coleus that has round-ish leaves with a red center? If it is, I haven't seen that variety around here. I like it!

I love Big Lots. I have not seen any Head Pots in Big Lots this year. I have seen some at CVS if you have that chain drugs store near you.

The head pots I purchased this year were from my local nursery.

With Rhipsalis she could look like Medusa!!! Fabulous! I tip my hat to you.

That last one is a bit spooky, but I still like it. I like gargoyles too...
Thanks for the ID on the cool leaves. Makes sense to me now.

I got a halfway decent shot of some torenia in a regular old boring hanging basket...and I am experimenting with using a cage sort of dealie with a planter in it. Opinions?

I like the idea of a spreader or trailer coming thru the cage, You might not need a tall plant in the combination.
You do know the planter combo slogan? Thriller- Filler-Spiller.
