I like the way it is now also. Over in Dave's we had the daily bloom threads and it got to be a hassle sometimes to go back and see what everyone wrote or if questions were asked on each one. At least now it's all in one.

Yeah, that's why I like the weekly posts some are making, much easier to find things once the thread finishes opening!

Caitlin -- I think it's been mentioned, but the first column when looking through the different dl forum threads says 'new'. If there's a 'yes' under that column, and you punch the 'yes' it will take you to the first post in the thread you haven't looked at. --Just figured that out a few weeks ago and have used it a lot since then. It's really a good way to keep track of where you left off. Smiling

cats1 - if you go to the little "person" looking icon way up in the upper left just under the big ATP logo on any page, and click on it, that will take you to own profile page where you can change your settings. Click on "Change your Site Preferences," then "Automatically jump to the first unread post in threads?" If you change that to "yes" the site will automatically take you to the first post you have not seen in any thread in any forum - no matter if you last looked at it 2 years ago. Dave is a wizard! Even if you jump into a thread you haven't read before, you can still skip to the latest page. Eg. if you looked at June 2014 Blooms thread now, it has over 500 posts and would be a hassle to read through all of them (although I did Big Grin ).

You can just click on the last page, I think it's 26 for me, since I have my preference set for short pages, and start reading there. They are the numbers in the boxes at the top of the page. Then if you catch up every day or two, you can see everything without having to wade through thousands of pictures in 500 posts.

That being said, I can't scroll past a picture of any daylily to save my life. Gotta ogle them all.

Since I figured out how to make a post go to the last one I looked at (sometime last year, I think, and I've been a member since 2012!!), I don't worry about the size of the thread anymore.

Although I have to admit, sometimes there are just so many pictures, I scroll through pretty fast. But I like having just one thread to go to because I know it will pick up right where I left off.

Maybe this is right ... so now it is making sense that all the different bloom threads for different months isn't really what most people would prefer. A single thread spanning the years, set to shorter pages individually by each member, would avoid all the situations mentioned. Thumbs up I understand now! Group hug

I've been here so long and have seen so many new avenues Dave has created to make this site so easy for us to use, I forget to remind new members of things like making your own shortcuts within your preferences. But with all the info on this thread I think it should ease most problems now. Thumbs up

I agree The innovations that are found, made, and embraced at ATP have made this the premier showcase to searchers of plants worldwide on the internet. And everyone is part of that image ... welcoming, listening, learning even from the newest and sometimes even the least experienced as they discover novel things among their new friends. Group hug

I guess it is hard for me to find something I remember seeing that I liked....way back when! Shorter threads on specific issues are easier to pinpoint. Not a big deal. But I do like sub-categories such as lates, earlies, yellows, patterns, etc.

See the little star at the bottom of your post, Caitlin? It's right beside the green thumbs up block. You can always 'star' a page by hitting the star and then from your personal page you can find the area that lists all the pages or posts that you have starred. That might help.

A single thread spanning the years is not right. I just went down through this thread and added up the responses I could find in each post

Those responses for...
no clear preference stated - 6
1 bloom thread daily - 1
1 bloom thread per month/leave it as it is - 8...& adding my own makes...9 total.

I didn't count yours chalyse, as you had 4 different ones ...

No preference - 1
1 bloom thread weekly - 1
1 bloom thread fortnightly - 1
1 never ending thread -1

Starting a new post for blooms and seedlings monthly, the way it has been done and is done now, is what the moderators have decided will work best for the Daylily forum.Thank you to everyone who responded! I tip my hat to you.

It seems as the site gains features a tutorial may become necessary, there is just so much for a newbie to try and pick up on and it is often months if ever some of the features are discovered. Of course, my point is, there may already be one and I just don't know about it.

Thanks, Char, I understood that making any changes was not something the moderators would consider doing any differently, like other threads. So, I really appreciate everyone embracing the discussion, thinking things through from many perspectives, and considering all of the many different facets, as well as the difficulties they felt were inherent, in splitting out threads of any duration, number of posts, or graphical loads.

It seems to have generated quite a lot of interest! Thumbs up

Most of the time I don't mind the large thread size on ATP. The exception is when I want to search for a specific cultivar and it pulls up the "June" or "July" bloom threads of any given year. It then becomes a total PITA to comb through each thread to find one photo. Almost like finding a needle in a haystack! If only ATP's search function could link to specific posts within a thread, it would be so much more convenient. Keep in mind that not all photos posted in the threads are uploaded to the database, either.

Otherwise, kudos to ATP's daylily forum for being a fantastic source of information and inspiration!

Corey, when I am searching, and that situation happens to me, I make sure my preferences in ATP are set to display a high number of threads per page. I usually have mine set to 500 anyway.

I go to the thread that ATP has indicated has the flower I am looking for, then I use my browser's search function (instead of ATP's) to search the page for the cultivar. Works great!

I hope those directions were understandable Rolling my eyes. it has been a long day here!

Speaking of having trouble with pages loading, I have been having trouble with ATP and the long threads loading for a couple weeks now. I have tried everything. I've been on with my providers tech support many times over the last week. Finally a tech came out today and found multiple issues from slightly chewed wires outside to splitters that were no longer needed from when we used to have cable tv too - and that my cable modem that we get internet on was not working properly. My pages are back to loading almost normally. He still could not resolve one issue I am having with my wi-fi. I own my router and it may need replacing.

So… if your having trouble accessing the pages - make sure to check out all the possible things that could be causing issues.
