In this case pseudo means bulb- like. It serves the same purpose, but unlike a daffodil or lily bulb, these grow above the ground, and most are not round like most true bulbs are.

Yes, just think of the pseudobulb as the "stem" of the orchid. Some orchids have pseudobulbs (probably most?) and it is a way for the plant to retain water during dry spells. Kind of like the humps on a camel. Whistling

Tk doesn't want an orchid that retains water, tk wants an orchid that blooms!

Tk will have to learn patience. Orchids are not annuls, they take their sweet time.

Carol is certainly correct, Orchids can test your patience. But, there is a way around that - grow Orchids which are blooming at different times during the year, and you have hopefully usually something in bloom.

There you go, Ursula. That's a great solution to the "blooming-dilemma". Just have lots of orchids, with varieties that bloom at different times. I have some orchids that will only bloom for a week or two and other that bloom for 3-4 months. Just have some of all. I have plenty. Whistling

Just had to add on the subject of patience - my neighbor in Utah, a lovely lady with 7 kids had a sign up on the wall in her kitchen:
"Dear Lord, give me Patience, and I want it Right Now!"

Well, I asked Dean "be honest, am I a patient or impatient person?" Yep, impatient. I've been waiting for 10 years for him to finish the crown molding in the house. I hired someone earlier this year. Just couldn't wait! He would have done it! Rolling on the floor laughing
