Ok, I don't know if this is supposed to be Star of the Nile or Blue River. Either way, it doesn't look like either. I know it's not Blueberry Hill because I found that corpse & I know where I planted Brown Study (different yard).

Everything's freckling with the temp fluxes. It's weird. And I mean everything. Even my Golden Masterpiece has freckles. My Shocking Blue blooming! And that was a teeny little sprout from RU!

I'm quite sure that everyone's blooms, who has them, has been fried with this heat we've been having! 100+ degs yesterday.. yuck! I have very very few blooms right now, between flushes (1st flush over, waiting patiently for 2nd). But I noticed something on one of my Koko Locos. It's producing .. striped? roses this year! Check this out.

I only lost 1 of the Palatine roses for this year.. Lady X. I think it's the spot. I've put 3 roses in that spot & all 3 have croaked. But all were from Palatine, too. Hmm.. maybe I'll just get a BlueGirl & plop her there, see what she does. It's not like I can have too many BlueGirls... LOLLL!!! Everyone else has or is getting ready to bloom. Yay! They're all really small bushes this year, but at least they have leaves & that's what matters. Need to feed everyone again this week.. these 90+ deg temp days have been murder on everyone!

I agree

I have lots of fried roses, except for 'Tiffany'. That kind of surprised me.

Today was the first day in weeks when temps got down 90F. I've worked all day outside. Of course, mid-day required the wet t-shirt, but I didn't have to stop working. How wonderful is that ?

Mike, you sound just like my husband! I texted him that I got caught in the sprinkler an hour ago and that was his response! It's so hot and humid here today that the riding mower is struggling. Guess that means I need to work on the irrigation project. At least that way I can hose myself off every 10 minutes or so! Heat index is 106, temp is 95, so we'll hit 100 in next few hours. It's only the 3rd time this year; we've been lucky so far.

Cindi ...

My day temps have been between 100F and 110F every day since the last week of June. The worst part is that it is not cooling off in the evenings, so I am getting farther and farther behind on stuff that has to be done ... Grumbling

I did catch a couple of fairly good photos of 'Rainforest' this morning. That is one smart rose. It has had buds on it for weeks, but they didn't open. Yesterday, temps got down to 90F and they popped.

This is from this morning:

That's a pretty one Lyn, I hope you add it to the database. Thumbs up
We have had unseasonably cooler weather lately, overcast in the mornings, some light drizzle, yesterday we even had a brief rain shower. It's all from a tropical weather system from the south so a little more humid than normal, (humidity is not the norm here) especially with the cloud cover but really quite pleasant, I have been enjoying working in the garden.

Sue - must be nice.. it hit over 100 yesterday & is planning on being that way until Sunday. We finally went for a 1mile walk last night at 930 because that's when it finally got below 85degs. Yuck. This heat's been miserable. But thankfully no humidity!

At my local grocery store, King Soopers, they had the 1gal own-root "Nearly Thornless" series of roses for $5 ea! So I picked up a Deja Blu & a Double Take. They're both a little leaf-bare from the heat, but they're own-root (I think they're probably from Chamblees as they're from Tyler TX). I'm plopping them in the ground tonight (provided it cools down just a hair bit.. don't really wanna be digging holes in 95+ deg temps!). They also had a yellow & a red, but I'm getting really fussy as to who I'm buying (running out of space).

It has been 100 +/_ for the last several days here too but adding the humidity which has not dropped below 60%, the sun, and the lack of wind, I'm ready to trade with any of you! All my modern roses look like bare sticks, but the old roses are still blooming bravely. Rain is predicted for the PM, but that has been the story all week, and it hasn't happened yet...

We had a freak thunder storm with real rain for an hour yesterday afternoon. The first six inches of the soil is saturated. I am weeding a lot today !

The rain knocked off all of the fried blooms, but I don't have time to take photos today. Maybe later this afternoon.

Toni ... the roses you purchased may have been supplied by Greenheart Farms. They bought the rights to all of the Ralph Moore roses, Dee Bennett roses and Benardella roses. They have re-named some of them, but are selling all of their roses wholesale.

With my triple digit temps, I am hold the new plants in their original containers under shade until temps drop. I know it's a hassle, but I think it's the only way I can keep them alive in my lousy soil.

PP ... all of my modern roses look fine ... except for the fried blooms on many of them. However, I've been preparing them to handle high temps and many of them have deep and wide root systems that enable them to take advantage of every bit of moisture they can find. I didn't prune much at all this year because I didn't want to encourage new growth. I think that has helped.

Smiles,
Lyn

Most of my roses are still blooming, with the next flush starting without any pruning on my part!
I expect that from the floribundas, but the HTs don't usually look this good. Guess that's what they look like in places that get rain and reasonable temperatures?
I prefer our hot dry summers, but evidently the roses disagree with me. The humidity suits them just fine.
Or maybe it's the cool-ish evenings we've had? Something is better this year.
It's nothing I've done, I know that much. Blinking

@zuzu and I braved the heat on Thurs. and hit a couple of nurseries! The humid greenhouses were the worst, I was so wiped out when I got home!
We divided our purchases on the cart. No roses were even contemplated this time.

It was so hot that day! The sprinklers were on at one of the nurseries and we were delighted when we got caught in the spray a few times. My stringy hair in the first photo happened before we got watered, though, so that should give you a clue to the heat factor.

Luckily, many of my purchases were shade plants, so they're already in the ground. The others will have to wait a few days until we're back down in the lower 80s. Yesterday it was 97 degrees here.

Your garden is indeed looking lovely! The puppy has really grown up to be a beautiful dog - a goose-herder?
